P4S533 - What else to Try?

I have read the other issues with this board and I have tried some of the proposed fixes that I am able to do. This is what I have:

Antec 430 True Power
Lian Li PC 60 Case
2 X 256mb Sticks of Samsung PC2700
Gainward Ti4200 128mb
P4 1.8A retail box

I tried to power up with just the basics installed. Made sure the board was not touching any of the metal parts. On the power supply I only had the 4 pin P4 plug and the 20 pin ATX plug plugged in along with the fans plugged in for case and processor fan. When I turn the power on to the power supply the green light on the board comes on. The case switch does not turn anything on. No fans come on at all including the power supply. I have tried taking the board out and putting it on an anti static bag with and without the video card and had the same results. I have also tried starting it with power plugged into the 4 pin. I have ordered another power supply to try that. Anything else I can try while I am waiting? I have had this board for a few weeks and is probably one of the first shipments released.

I have (2) P4S333 boards that I acquired about 2 weeks ago from both NewEgg and GoogleGear. I also purchased retail 1.8A CPUs to go with each and cannot get either to work as well. I have tried all "normal" remedies (multiple chassis/PS, different memory sticks, checking for grounding issues etc.) and still cannot get either to boot. One thing I would check is to plug in some external speakers and see what the voice POST system is saying the issue is. Mine keeps looping "System failed CPU test", but both processors work fine in other Abit and Asus boards so it's not the chips.

I'm interested to hear what yours is saying.

Thanks,

Tom

I'm running a P4S533 with an Enermax 330W P/S and a 1.6A at 2.133. The only problem I had was if I completely tightened the screw holding the video card in the AGP slot the system wouldn't boot. If I just barely loosened that screw the system would start and run just fine. It's been running 24/7 for two weeks now without a single problem.

For whatever it's worth, I plugged in my P4S533/1.6A system last night and it booted perfectly the first time with no configuration required. I doubt the onboard LAN/audio has anything to do with a DOA board. The only problem I had was caused by my enabling the "Plug and Play O/S" option in the BIOS, which did not work and play well with XP Pro (it prevented the LAN card from working properly).

I tried disabling audio and I still had the same results. There is a device I found at directron for around 14.95 that allows you to check power supplies so I purchased that. I do not have a speaker to plug in but I am not getting any activity at all when I hit the switch on the power supply other than the green light on the mobo. I ordered an Enermax 430 power supply which should be arriving in a few days and I will try that. If that does not work I will request an RMA from the company I bought from (11cb.com). Future reference I have not been very pleased with their less than average services and their misleading/conflicting return policies (which ultimately cost 20% of the purchase price).

Did you buy the board OEM or Retail. I know there is definitely an issue with the OEM boards. Also try a couple of other things:

1. The OEM release does not have the chasis intrusion disabled. The two pins have to be jumpered (this is not default) otherwise the system will not start.
2. Try removing one of the memory sticks, and leaving only one stick in the first memory bank
3. Are you sure the case switch's polarity isn't reversed?

Hmmmmm - mine was OEM and did not have this, or any other problems.

I tried it with one memory bank and it did not work. The place I purchased from, 11cb.com, did not tell you if the items were OEm or retail. The motherboard box appeared to be retail and all the parts were in it. However the hard drive I purchased from them I thought was retail and it was OEM so who knows for sure. I will check for the intrusion detection jumpers. Hopefully the new power supply will be here in a day or so. As far as the switch goes I checked where it plugs into the motherboard and it was on the right pins, 7 and 8. I tried turning it around just in case and it still did not work. At least one of the pins on the P4 plug is loose as if I am not careful plugging it in I can see the metal piece slide up. This is my first complete build. Interesting experience especially when it does not work.

It seems the intrustion detection jumpers have been the problem. The pins were jumpered, pins 2 and 3, and I have the fan sensor plug from the power supply plugged in to the board. For kicks I took off the jumper and it booted up without a probem. I get the message "Case intrusion detected" or something like that click ok and it goes right into bios. I will leave it running for a few days and then start installing the rest of the devices. I used a Volcano 7+ on the processor and removed the fan control speed switch. It is running at maximum and is very loud. I guess I will throw the switch back on and set it for medium speed.
Thanks peroxide for the tip.

I had no problems at all either. Just cannot get a 2.2 Northwood anything over 2.6
