P55 Sockets

After reading the article on defective foxcon sockets in P55 boards, I became concerned that if the damage is clearly apparent when exposed to extreme overclocking then would the sockets be similarly damaged when reasonably overlocked but over a longer period of time?

This is really making me think twice about getting a Lynnfield.

Other manufacturers use sockets produced by Foxconn.
From what I read only MSI and some EVGA boards do not.
ie Asus P7P55D the board that I was going to get uses sockets made by Foxconn.

We already know that the defect occurs during extreme overclocking. The question is: could the same be assumed about reasonable overclocks but over a significant period of time?

from what I can tell the problem is insufficient contact between the socket and the chip, causing the current to flow over fewer pins. Long as you aren't jacking up the vCore to N2O levels, you should be fine.

Yea but could it be said that the same damage will occur @ reasonable oc voltages over a longer period of time?

um...no. The problem isn't time, its amperage. One doesn't affect the other.

Didn't something like this happen around 2003 or is that completely different?

In 2003, here were lots of people who overclocked to high levels and their capacitors leaked/busted 6 months after.
2 years later, normal people who don't even overclock started experiencing the same problem with leaking capacitors and their motherboards where replaced for free which cost them $$$, hence the "all solid or solid state" capacitors marketing campaign we see today?

Those people who overclocked simply exposed the liquid capacitor problem earlier.
