P5B Deluxe and AHCI SATA?

Ok, I just found out by reading some threads regarding other issues that you have to install a driver during XP install to enable AHCI for the P5B Deluxe SATA controller. I JUST installed it with SATA set to IDE mode.

How should I proceed from here? Should I just start over again, do a Repair Installation (No programs or drivers installed yet), or just forget it? What's the speed benefit from AHCI vs IDE mode anyway?

Make sure you have the JMicron drivers installed. Once you do, turn off the PC and plug into the JMicron SATA port. Turn on AHCI for the ICH8 port, and when in Windows, install the Intel Matrix Drivers. Shut down again, plug into the ICH8 port and turn back on. Should boot now.

I was in the same situation, i did some reading and it's possible to install the Intel AHCI drivers w/out doing a XP install. I did it and so far works great.
Go to the Intel Site and download the Matrix Driver, you need the one that will be used on a diskette. download it and it will install itself on to a diskette. Using add/remove unistall the Jmicron, under Control Panel-- system---> device manager, go to the IDE controller and chosse to update the driver, instruct xp to update to driver on the diskette, once done it will reboot and once it does go to BIOS and change the SATA settings to AHCI, and thats should do it.
"do this at your own risk, if it doesn't work a XP install might be on order, and of course backup all needed information" like i said worked great for me and quite a few other that reported doing this way.
I was not able to boot into windows when i selected AHCI anyhwre, and of course Intel Matrix won't install the drivers under windows if it doesn't see the controller as AHCI, this was a risk worth taking.

Am I totally out of luck if I want NCQ (and whatever other niceties AHCI brings) with Linux (Ubuntu)? This sounds odd: there is an option n BIOS, but some drivers are still needed (not to mention how tricky it is to install them).

Quite possibly the most helpful bit of knowledge regarding the P5B Deluxe, thank you. I've been running in IDE mode for 2.5 months, it's nice to finally have it running in AHCI. It just feels...right.
