P5N-E SLI problems on boot

So I built my new rig tonight, and well it wont boot.

When I first booted it the CPU fan was making some wierd noise then after 3 secs or so the PC would shut down (without beeps or anything).

I took the fan off and put it back on, but now when I boot it, the fans try to start spinning for not even a second then it shuts down...

P5N-E SLI Mobo
Intel E4300 CPU
BFG 8800 GTS GPU
Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU
Seagate Barracuda 320GB HDD
Samsung DVD-RW
Kingston DDR2-6400 2x1GB

There's a huge article on the P5N-E SLI board which should help you out, but this just sounds like a general new build scenario and not related specifically to this board.

Try resetting the cmos.

Also, I hope you didn't short something out by not grounding yourself first. If you didn't, then you probably killed a part without even knowing.

I don't know if this is your first ever build or not, but if it doesn't boot at all or it doesn't even power on then you might have a DOA part.

Double check all your power connections, etc.

Also be sure that you don't have extra standoffs in the wrong position, which may be causing a grounding issue.

This board only requires 4 standoffs, since it isn't a full atx board.

I just built about the same configuration except E660 processor. System fans would go on for about 2 seconds, then system would shut off. This turned out to be a missing 3-pin power connector to the KBPWR (keyboard power) connector in the upper left of the motherboard.

I had removed and replaced all parts during that process of investigation.

Once I plugged in the power cable it came up fine but kept hanging during XP install, at different places. Removed one of the memory carsd and it loaded ok, but then kept hanging at different times.

Long story short. When I removed the CPU fan to check the cpu, I did not replace the heat transfer paste and hence, the CPU was overheating. Replaced the paste, re-assembled the system including the memory, has not hung up or crashed since.

The board has 6 standoffs, not 4 thank God! It is still about 3 below what would be required, but not all that bad...

Beatbox,

Remove the CPU, re-apply the paste, and boot with ONLY 1 Sick of RAM. If that doesn't work, try the other stick. And check all the power connections to the MOBO and your Video Card.

And visit all the 196 pages of P5N-E SLI thread, as Shampoo mentioned above.

Well, at least page 1 and 92 and go from there...
