I am running a P5Q-E with a Q6600. Bios 0803 which is the latest bios which is supposed to fix weird temperature readings.
I now have the cpu overclocked to 3ghz using an FSB of 333. No other overclocking is going on. THere are two 120mm fans in the front, one in the back and the CPU cooler is a Zalman 9500. I was using AS5 but just reseated the heatsink and used Zalman STG1.
Problem is system runs HOT! I am running Prime95 right now. It has been running 20 minutes. Using speedfan for the readings and they also match Probe and coretemp. the temps are:
MB 46
CPU 41
Core 0 66
Core 1 66
Core 2 61
Core 3 61
The core temps get as high as 68. When the CPU is not overclocked, core temps are about 5 degrees less.
This seems way too high to me. Won't core temps of 68 fry the CPU?
All fans are working, the airflow is not restricted. Opening the case doesn't make more than a degree or 2 of difference.
What can I do to get these temps under control? Do the Q9450s run much cooler? Would a different cooler do much better? How about a different motherboard? I am stumped!!!!
