P5Q-E Has sleep problems

My P5Q-E has starting having sleep issues. Not sure when it started either. The last few mornings, the machine was up and running with the video off though. It is set to sleep after 45 minutes.

Looked in all the logs. I don't see anything happening that would show the machine tried to sleep and fail or slept and was woken up by some system process. It just doesn't sleep although it will turn off video (after 20 minutes).

I can manually put it to sleep without a problem!

Is there a third party software that will monitor all system activity better than Windows that might show me whats going on? Any clue as to what is wrong?

I answered my own question last night. Under power options at the very bottom, there is an option that says allow or not allow the system to idle down when sharing media. I had it set to allow and I recently set up a network where I am sharing some folders.

Evidently, just having your machine set up for file sharing stops the machine from automatically sleeping. Once I changed the setting to allow it, it started behaving properly there.

Also just as an aside, this board has had problems reporting temps and reorting fan speeds. I have just upgraded bios to 1306 and the temps are still sometimes out of whack but last night the fan speeds went crazy. The back exhaust fan was reporting at about 110,000 rpm (should be 1600), the two front intake fans which are usually at 1200 were reporting 146,000 and 800 respectively. This morning, the back exhaust fan wasn't reporting at all but the two fronts seemed ok.

If I could find a good alternative, I would dump this board in a second.

Strange. My p5q-e works fine. Temp and fan speed are both accurate from what I learned...

I also have recently updated my bios to 1306. I find no problem with it...

This board has been problamatic from day 1. First one allowed me to load Windows and then the next day would not let me get into Windows without freezing. Updated bios but bios was corrupted. Wound up returning for P5Q-E #2 which is my present board.

Luckily its stable but I have had weird temp and fan rpm problems all along. The bios revision doesn't seem to help either.

Hmmm interesting, this board has been rock solid (heart touching! lol) and a great performer for me. What are you using to measure temps/fan speeds with? I run CPUID Hardware Monitor 24/7 and haven't seen anything weird; all Max results are nominal.

I have noticed *some* flakiness after I moved into a 1200 with TPQ-1000, but it was because I had moved some of my drives to different SATA ports. Easy enough to troubleshoot though, as this is a pretty common problem with any board. Moved them back and tightened them up and no more drives spinning up or random Matrix program pop-ups.

I have Everest Ultimate running all the time. I run Speedfan and Probe II once in a while. Each program displays the same readings more or less. When the temps go wacky, Everest seems to keep the last realistic temp while Probe and Speedfan will keep going with the 250+ degree display.

All programs show these weird readings so I know its not the program. Oh, if I reboot and look in the bios, I see the same weird readings there.
