P67 Motherboards that don't block DIMM 1 with a 212

Currently on my Gigabyte P67 UD3, when I use my coolermaster 212, I can no longer access my DIMM1 RAM slot. Sure, if I put my ram in before the heatsink, it's not a problem, but what if I do?! It's annoying to have to disassemble my entire system to get at my ram slot.

I heard that all H67 / P67 boards have this problem. Is this true? If not, are there any boards that don't have this problem? Or that have an acceptable workaround when using 4 DIMM slots.

For instance, I see that the ASUS P8P67 Pro has 8 DIMM slots, so I could just bypass DIMM1 entirely?

Additional info:
1) I don't really plan on using more than 1 graphics card ever
2) Have a SSD that uses 6 GB/s
3) Not power supply limited, have a 1000W power supply.

I noticed that the P8P67 Pro has 12 VRM phases vs 6 VRM phases on my Gigabyte P67 UD3.

Will I notice the difference?

Asus P8P67 Pro has four DIMM slots, not eight. As for your original question, judging from pictures I found on the net, I think if you take off the fan on your Hyper 212 you should be fine.

Really? I was looking at it on newegg I thought and it said it supported 32GB RAM, which is only possible with 8 slots of 4GB ram, right?

Hm? That board only has four DIMM slots.

This is from Asus:

According to Intel® SPEC, the Max. 32GB memory capacity can be supported with DIMMs of 8GB (or above). ASUS will update QVL once the DIMMs are available on the market.

Yes, four dimms on the P8P67 Pro. If using two sticks of memory, the manual recommends using slots A2 and B2 (the blue ones) anyway.

if you put in correctly, its fine... the 212+ cooler itself is enough. if you have high-heatsink RAMs, then you might need to move the fan clips a little higher, but its fine

Yeah, but what if I ever need to access DIMM 1? For instance, the first time I did this build, the RAM slot in DIMM 1 was horribad. In memtest, 7800 fails, 1 pass.

Anyway, so is it true that no P67 boards allow easy access to the DIMM 1 slot with a hyper 212?

i have a p8p67 pro and i dont have an issue with my Rip Jaws

the issue lies with the case. What you have to do is slightly mount the fan higher which may come in contact with your case. On a side note, my fan is only elevated to about the top of the pipes in the fins so its not a problem.

So you're saying the ram fits under the 212's HSF fine, but you can't remove the ram once everything's in place. Why not just pull the fan off the heatsink if you ever need to access the ram slot? I've got a 212+ on an asus board in a 1156 build, but I've not had to access the first slot yet. The fan just snaps on and off easily from the heatsink, no big deal to remove it.

My ASRock Extreme6 allows access to all ram slots with my 212(and fan) installed. I just did it while installing my new B3 board today.

My memory does not have huge/high heatsinks though.

I have the same concern. I haven't bought my board yet but I got in on the deal the other day with the GSkill RAM with the high heatspreaders. I just couldn't pass up the deal.

Different board, but my ASUS P7P55D-E Pro board has the same issue with the #1 slot being close to the CPU. I went with a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 cooler, and I can't access that slot without removing the fan that covers it. RAM with tall heatsinks might be an issue, but the Corsair XMS RAM fits fine...as long as I insert it before attaching that fan.
I believe the P67 boards are the same...use memory w/o the tall heatsinks and you're fine.

Thank goodness I have the corsair XMS RAM without high profile heatsinks lol.

I have the asus p8p67 using a 212. All 4 slots I have g.skill ripsaws in. Doesnt seem to block them at all. Its really close, but not a problem.

I have the CM212+ on a Gigabyte P55 mobo, and it does overlap the first RAM slot.

However, I simply slid the fan up about 1/2" -- enough to clear an installed RAM stick in that first slot -- and don't notice any temp difference. However, I do have a push/pull fan configuration, so maybe the pull fan helps compensate?
