Hey guys, I have a quick question for you. I have an i5-2500k and Gigabyte P67 UD3 board that I am having problems with. I have it set in AHCI mode with my OCZ SSD running windows. I just bought a seagate HD to use as storage but I cant get it to show up as a drive. It is recognized in the bios as a drive and also in device manager but nothing shows up in my computer as a usable drive. Ive set it to IDE as well but no luck. The ssd is set to the SATA 0 and seagate set to SATA 1 slots (both 6mbps)

Can someone give me a hand?

Thanks

edit: wrong drive

what silan said

but really, what FW is the SSD and type? running win 7? you need atleast fw 1.5 for them to do TRIM, and you need to be doing that for the sake of the drive

If it's initialized and partitioned - formated propperly you maybe just need to assign a drive letter for the partition from disk management.

Thanks for the help guys. Yes it is windows 7

In disk management I dont see the drive. All I see is my C drive (SSD) and something that says system reserved (100mb). I am not seeing my seagate drive but I do see it in the bios and device manager.

You need to rename it..that is what I had to do...

Went from this:

There is nothing for me to rename. When I go to my computer all I see is the C drive and an image drive created by daemontools.

Check disk manager again and make sure isn't a drive listed at the bottom of the list that doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it yet. Right click on it and initialize the drive.

you know, I think the days of just plugging in a new drive and going into disk manager and setting it up are over with the P67 chipset
AFAIK this prob is not present on the Marvel SATA 6Gbs
The first issue is it doesnt like the firmware on certain drives for some reason. The second issue is that if you already have a working boot drive it seems reluctant to add another. The third issue is the boards are so fast, it may miss the second drive during boot sequence.

Tho I am unfamiliar with the UD3, if you will tell me how you want the drive partitioned, I will tell you what to do
But first go in the bios and disable fast boot just for giggles - you know allow mem count or whatever they do, no full logo show? And see if it shows
Also need to know EXACTLY what seagate - IOW an older drive?

Hey sorry guys, I was away for awhile and finally back home now. You were right...I had to set the delay to detect the HDD to anything greater than 0 for it to be seen and it works like a normal drive now. I changed it back to 0 and it still works so who knows.

Now one of the problems I am having is that if the computer is on for hours then when I restart it gets stuck at the bios screen where you press del to go to bios or F12 to go to the boot sequence...etc. It doesnt get out of that screen until I turn my pc off for like 10 minutes. I know it isnt overheating but dont know what the problem is. Thanks
