P8H61-M HDMI audio

Not sure if this is a mobo question or a cpu question, but...

If I am using a Sandybridge cpu and using the iGPU, combined with a mobo that has an HDMI port. Will it support video and audio through this port?

Is it dependent on the iGPU (HD 3000 vs HD 2000 vs HD)
Is it dependent on the chipset (not sure why this would be the case, but you never know) H61/H67/P67/Z68...
Or is it dependent on the mobo manufacturer, whether they incude this support or not.

In my case it is a Celeron G530 with HD graphics pairer with a H61 mobo made by ASUS.

You can't use the iGPU on an H61. It's not enabled. That would require H67 or Z68 for the SB family.

On the contrary, you can use your CPU's iGPU on H61.
I think that all of the H61 motherboards I've seen have DVI and sometimes VGA on the rear connectors.

As for OP's question, I am not sure.

That link is for the CPU. The CPU does have the integrated graphics processor.

We are talking about the motherboard chipset.

While I do not own an H61 motherboard, I am fairly certain that you can use the CPU's integrated GPU on them.

Well, if you're right that would be a score for me. I should be getting a CPU soon so I'll test it out.

H61 does have IGP enabled (though some H61, Z68 mobos dont implement any GPU ports, meaning you CANT use IGP... H61 b/c of cost reduction, Z68 prolly because the user will be using discrete and the mobo manufacturer doesn't want to waste any time/money supporting IGP)

ONly the P67 chipset "officially" doesn't support IGP

I have got the rig up and running and I can confirm that both
- video is working on my H61 chipset.
- audio is working through the HDMI port.

On a side note, this Celeron G530 is a hell of a chip for $50.

I have an ECS h61 board with HDMI and I use the igpu from a Celeron G530. And yes you get audio over HDMI.

On a side note, this Celeron G530 is a hell of a chip for $50.

A few of us who see the G530 as a "dual core Sandy Bridge" and not a "Celeron" have been saying that for a while in the CPUs and Overclocking forum. Very good value for the money. Heck, Micro Center sells them for $39.99. Yup, dual core Sandy Bridge!

Note that there is a single core version. The $5-10 saved over the dual core G530 is probably not worthwhile for most people.

H61, H67, Q65, Q67 and Z68 chipsets all support the CPU's integrated graphics without a discrete card installed. Of course the motherboard manufacturer can opt to leave out that feature. Z68 in particular also allows the CPU's integrated graphics to operate alongside a discrete graphics card, so you can add up to 2 more monitors without adding more graphics cards. I say "up to 2 more monitors" because some motherboard manufacturers (I'm looking at you, Gigabyte) opted to leave out all graphics ports on some boards, while others (hello, Asus Gene-Z) only has one port.

There are a few minor differences. Most notably, H61 doesn't offer legacy PCI support.
