P8P67 firmware: 1003 or 1053

What is the general consensus on P8P67 firmware? Are people pleased with the beta (1053) or should we just stick with what our boards shipped with until a final version is released? Any horror stories either way?

Apparently this is the only change in the beta firmware...

Enable support of "Internal PLL Overvoltage" item to allow better CPU Turbo Ratio overclock capability with D2 Stepping processors.

Unless you're comfortable with the finer points of more aggressive overclocking (and plan on doing such in the immediate future), that BIOS isn't necessary.

I flashed to 1053 the first time I booted with this new build. Been running smoothly for me (2600k @ 4.5ghz on Pro board).

BTW, it wasn't clear in your post, but mine shipped with 0402 (I think?) bios version... not 1003. I put both 1003 & 1053 on a thumb drive in case there was problems with the 1053 which I used first and it's been working well.

I upgraded to 1053 yesterday. It seems to have solved my double boot issue, so I'm pretty satisfied.

What is the best way to flash?

I have heard mixed things about doing it thru windows vs. in the bios.

I flashed using a thumb drive in BIOS. Quick and easy. I can't speak to doing it in Windows since I flashed before I had windows installed; but I can't imagine it being much easier than the BIOS thumb drive method.

Same... put the .ROM on a thumbdrive from separate computer, plugged it into new computer... went to advanced mode -> tool -> Asus EZ Flash Utility ... it detected the thumbdrive and gave me a list (since I had both 1003 & 1053)... just selected 1053 and followed the prompts. Restarted, went into BIOS and was done.

According to the link above - the Asus rep says:

" It is listed as a BETA but we consider the 1053 build our formal launch UEFI build for the P8P67 Series of motherboards. "

Thumb drive and BIOS, dude, using Asus EZ Flash. The risks are much lower than ANY Windows-based utility.

Definitely good to know. Thanks.

One of two P8P67 Pro's I've bought refused to flash either, told me neither was a BIOS file. The other flashed the exact same files off the exact same drive and has been running on 1053 no problem. So YMMV.

I'll probably try to upgrade to 1053 tonight when I get home. I flashed to 1003 first thing when I initially powered up the board, and I have had the dual boot issue. I'm not concerned at this point, but I haven't tried to overclock yet--I still want to pick out a nice new heatsink for the CPU.

Scratch my earlier post, looks like I'll probably skip 1053 and go to 1253, as per Gary Key's post.
