P8P67 issues

I got the 2500k+P8P67 combo from MC as well as

8gb ddr3 1333
1gb 5850 xfx
corsair 750tx PS

I attempted a bench post test and at first boot attempt things worked as expected, but EVERYTIME after that usb devices refuse to power and the monitor will not take the signal (now those who followed that gfx card from hotdeals are aware of the high failure rate for it mentioned on newegg, but i am pretty sure it is no culprit at least yet)

what i am experiencing is similar to the OP in the MC scam claim thread, i get liike a red led flash(that is near the memok! button) once on boot everytime. However it seems a successful boot happens once and after that i have to clear cmos by moving jumpers as stated in the manual to get that one working boot opportunity. I have my cpu fans (A70 cooler) connected to PWR fan connector cause CPU fan connector is 4 pin when i need 3 pin. This triggers mobo to cry hardware warning that isnt a big deal. Setting cpu fan to ignore rids this and is all changes i made from defaults i then save and reboot only to meet the "boot doom" problem where fans and everthing seems powered but monitor gets no signals as well as usb devices.

I flashed to 1204 bios from 0402 and considering how ancient the stock bios was i thought the issue was gone cause after reboot from flash i did not experience the boot doom issue. I then launched memtest86+ 4.2 and after test passed w/o errors i rebooted only to get boot doom again. Also strangely update of bios raised cpu temp in uefi about 12° C (from 30-36 to 42-48)

Im also wondering about the installation of the cpu, dropping it in the sockett and lowering the metal plate is simple but sealing it with the lever feels very unreassuring there is this slight crunch noise when doing it. Is this normal for otther p8p67 users?

I dont know what to do i really dont wanna put up with returns and exchanges, hopefully its some software issue.

Yes there was a crunching sound when I put the CPU in mine, which I thought was weird, but everything works fine.

I doubt you need to return your board since it has booted. There must be some component causing problems with the BIOS/EFI, which seems to be common on these new boards.

seems like i might not need a return, i hadnt cleared cmos after bios update and when i did i dont get this boot doom anymore!

but when i try to install win 7 via usb, when it is expanding files at about 46% i get a blue screen with STOP: 0x00000101

BSOD in Win7 Install is 100% hardware problem.
I'd start testing the memory first.

I really don't like the locking mechanism it has. It seemed like there was too much lateral friction that it was having a hard time getting under the nub. Mine made a crunching noise as well.

I agree with bigi though, anytime i have ever had a BSOD during a windows install was either from a bad sector on the ram, or a bad sector on the usb stick I was installing from.

thanks for the input guys well i have already tested the ram as noted in my OP and it passed, but i think the test was done b4 i cleared the cmos, so im redoing it now, should default memtesting suffice? or should i configure it?

also im using two wd6400aaks in non raid that were previously in ide mode on a p35 board, the p8p67 is auto ahci and i left it as so. I have them connected on intels sata6gb. I could connect them to the sata3gb socket to see a dif. If none i think its cpu overheat cause my idle temps r near 50 ever since i upped the bios to 1204

If temp increased after BIOS update, I'd assume they just tweaked the reading of the sensors. 50 C shouldn't be enough for overheat, but my 2600k idles at 30 C with the same board and the 1253 BIOS, and the stock cooler, according to AI Suite II.

You could try one memory module at a time, and in different slots. Also leave only one hard drive attached until you find the problem. May want to killdisk one of the drives too, then try installing windows on it and let windows format it, and see what happens.

Well i reinstalled the windows 7 disk to the usb, left only the boot drive connected, i reversed the ram sticks and passed memtest again too, and the same error code no matter what.

Now i have not used only one stick doesnt seem necessary since in dual channel it always passes memtest. I also havent reformatted the entire disk i have like a 370GB partition of data on it in which i dont have where to dump it too. So i just reformat the system and programs partitions with the win 7 usb.

Before any of this i dismantled the cooler and cpu and used ocz freeze thats 6 months past its shelf life instead of the thick clay-like paste of the a70 and got a 1C drop lol.

Where is the 1253 bios? Perhaps another bios jump will help.

the standard one

i managed to grab the 1253 bios but the bs followed, however after many failed attempts to install via usb i somehow managed to advance. I had to compress backup the data on my boot drive to my storage then disconnected the storage drive. I did a full wipe of the boot drive with acronis disk director, set up my usual 4 partitions then began 7install which failed, tried with making only the windows partition from install but failed as well, finally tried with onlycreating the 7partition in acronis and it worked.

As I was writing this I left the OS at idle then the system got bsod. At restart it shows me the same error codes:

0x00000101
0x0000000000000031
0x0000000000000000
0xFFFFF88003764180 / FFFFF88002F64180
0x0000000000000002

Its been restarting with bsod several times it has given me several mini dumps
