P8P67 RAID issue

So finally got my 2500k setup on a regular P8P67 board. I had two sata hard drives, both plugged into sata2 Intel ports and one booting. The other drive... I just bought an identical one thinking I'll mirror it for data. Got the mirroring set up, then tried to boot to win7 64 bit. bluescreens and the repair was unsuccessful.

Plugged in my boot drive to my Marvell Sata3 port and things are good.

Question is, why did I have to do that when Intel's RAID BIOS gave the option to specify drives as non-raid as well as raid? I suspect it has to do with the ICH controller presenting itself to Windows as something different when RAID is enabled in the ASUS BIOS.

So... If and when I get an SSD, am I stuck on the Marvell controller as long as I'm doing raid?

FWIW I have a new Raid 0 setup on the Intel controller on the same board. I turned off the Marvell controller as all it did was slow my boot time down. I do NOT think you can move a RAID from one controller to a different maker's controller. Is that what you're asking? I stayed away from the Marvell. Doubt I'll ever use it. Not that there's anything wrong with it. If I can get better performance with it on a new SSD boot drive (which I will do in a few months or so) then it'll be worth it.

Well, I know the Marvell's not as good as Intel's ICH sata3 controller. But my question was, my boot drive was built on the Intel configured as non-RAID and a sata hard drive.

Now that the Intel is configured as RAID, booting to it results in a blue screen.

I fixed it simply by plugging the boot drive over to the Marvel.

If I get an SSD and image my boot partition over to it, will it run on the Intel or do I have to go on the Marvell? In other words, can the Intel Raid controller let you boot a non-raided drive that was configured before you turned on RAID?

Alternately, can I stick my mirrored set on the the Marvell?

Sorry this seems to be a much more complicated question then originally thought.

I am having the same issue trying to setup a RAID with my new ASUS P8P67 Pro rev 3 board. Did you find a solution? I am wondering if a Windows reinstall would help?

I contacted ASUS and there tech suggested RMAing the board due to a faulty RAID controller, but I am not sure if that is the case?

You need to install the RAID driver into Windows BEFORE you enabled RAID in the BIOS.

Correct that is why its giving the BSOD screen. There are guide on line on how to enable ACHI after install and for the intel raid it would be similar steps if you would like to try

But if its a new build and not all installed or fully configured might be easier just to set raid, make the array and re-install windows
