I just got the regular... I was thinking about the PRO because I just bought a 470 and had the intention to SLI later. Then I just thought 'by the time I want to sli 470's there will be a single gpu that is as powerful and uses half the energy and is half as hot'.

Plus the pro is OOS at my local place.

I keep hearing about problems with the new ASUS boards, namely "double boot" issues.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1576509

Have any of you had similar problems?

Hmm...that's not good.

I did have this happen to me a few times. I thought it was due to my still tweaking and installing programs and rebooting. It did this when I installed Win 7. It's also interesting that they mention their DDR3 not being recognized as 1600 bc I have the same problem.

My P8P67 has been delayed due to nasty weather out east but I'm starting to regret my purchase already.

I have the p8p67 pro and also have the double boot issue, other than that, it works fine. The UEFI takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm getting there. The double boot issue seems to be memory related, and I'm not terribly worried about it at the moment. I've seen some possible fixes I'll try after I finish installing everything into a new case, that is smaller than I'm used to, and finish cannibalizing my old computer. I did update the BIOS to version 1003 before installing windows or anything else.

Overall, I think this will be a pretty good board, that currently has some minor annoyances. Of course, my tune may change after spending more time with it.

Sorry I'm a noob - what does powered Esata get me? Hot swapping (ie ability to plug in and go rather than reboot?

It will power eSATA devices through the data cable instead of through an external AC/DC plug. Less cables, less hassle.

I have also had the "double boot" on all my P35/ P55 Gigabyte boards. My Gigabyte boards would turn on then shut down and turn on seconds later. This is not unusual or an issue in any way. I keep my computer on 24/7 anyway .

My Asus P8P67 does this only if power is completely removed (pulled plug or switch on PSU). If it is a soft-off, it will not double boot.

Well, I think this might have been posted already, but I haven't gotten a definitive answer so I will describe my problem in detail.

As the title says, my P8P67 Pro is giving me some bizarre boot issues. After turning off my computer for the first time and turning it back on the next day, and then it wouldn't boot. My monitor would detect a connection but then go into sleep mode. I had to then turn my computer on and off a few times and finally got it to turn on. I then received an "Overclock Failed" message (even though I didn't overclock anything yet at this point) and then the system proceeded to boot normally. When researching this issue myself it seemed to be a memory issue, because my 1600 MHz memory gets detected as 1333 MHz (with correct timings). I then tried clocking it to 1600 MHz as well as changing the voltage but it didn't work consistently. Sometimes it would boot normally but other times (particularly when I moved my computer around to access the rear ports), it still experienced this issue. Hell, my computer once reset itself outright when I attempted to move it while it was on.

Now, I updated my BIOS to 1003 and the issue is slightly different. I haven't experienced the above issue, but now every time I turn my computer on, the fans spin up for a second, then it turns off. Then in a few seconds it turns itself on, with the CPU and DRAM LEDs flashing red for a split second and then booting normally. In every one of these instances, my computer has been stable, it only seems to be an issue with cold boots.

So are there any suggestions? It is a shame that I am having these issues because my CPU and SSD have been performing admirably so far.

EXACTLY the problem I have.

Yep, I was the one who posted that hardforum thread. When I first experienced the issue I thought something else was broken, but it turned out that many other people had the same problem.

And yeah, the CLR RTC method seems to have worked in most cases and is the only known solution (until Asus releases a better BIOS), I will try it myself next time I need to turn off my PC.

I gotta re-read those threads, but are you saying that EVERY TIME you shut down the PC, then next time you turn it on you need to do something to clear out RAM or something?

If so I'm not going ASUS for now. I can't push onto the wife or kids some techie clear and re-boot dance when they try to use the PC if I'm not around. Maybe I don't appreciate the nature of the problem described earlier.

It's a one-time thing. Kind of quirky, but it worked for me.

Weird.

I'm still deciding between

ASUS p8p67
ASUS p8p67 Pro
ASRock Extreme 4

and maybe Gigabyte UD3h or something, although it seems they're skimpier on options and also no EFI. And they're no cheaper.

Yes, clearing the RTC ram worked perfectly. Quirky and I suspect it will be fixed in an update. Not a deal breaker once you know how to fix it.

I also disabled the shitty marvell sata controller. I don't use it and it was causing idle cpu usage of 8%. Soon as I disabled it idle it is 0%. Shitty drivers. Marvell suck.

Gotta say upgrading to SB has been a bit painful. I guess it's new tech so the mobos bios' are buggy but I think my pc is just stable now and I've spent like 5 hours on it (building + fixing bugs etc). Plus one of my hard drives died during the change over.

On the up side I'm on 4.4 on a budget air cooler.

What is the Marvell Sata controller? Is that a second Sata controller or something? If not how do you just shut it down (I assume one needs a Sata controller)

And is your P8P67 doing a "double boot"?

Tell me if I'm doing something wrong but I have an SSD and I need to put it on AHCI. I also have a RAID setup from my old rig that I put on the Marvel controller and have that set up as RAID and not AHCI. The RAID setup won't work on the SSD SATA port bc it is set as AHCI. Is there a way around this?

This is one of the major reasons I'm sticking with my X-58's. I've got it all setup like I want it and it's 100% stable. It's gonna take 2011 being a beast of a platform to get me away from my X-58 builds. New builds can be a pita sometimes. Nothing worse than putting it all together and pushing the power button and nothing happens.
