OK, so all of a sudden I could not click on a file without locking up, then tried to re-install, and would not even get into install. Then tried disconnecting all the HD's but one. No go, so bad HD ? used an external adapter to disk check. Took 5 hours. No go after that, but checked good. Then a different HD from a functioning computer. No go, won't even get close to beginning setup, when it says "starting windows" before you even get the setup option, it BSODS. 7A I think it was, which say something about disk problems.

Could the sata ports all be borked from back when there was a known sata bug ? its about 6 months old.

Do you have Revision 3.0 with B3 chip Or the original board with B1 chip? If you never bothered changing the board to the latest revision, it could be the case. However, the 2 SATA 6.0 ports off the Intel controller (these are grey on the motherboard) should still work. The Marvell controller ports should also work.

This quick guide should let you double check if you have the B3 revision.

Well, its the later board... I had an ASRock the first time, and exchanged for the ASUS (unless they fooled me, how do I know for sure ??). Also, I have tried all 3 sets of port on the motherboard to no avail. I think its just a bad motherboard.

What do you think ?

+1 for memory test. You'll usually find out in the first 10 mins or so, but let it run for a few hours

I ran that for hours... That was my first guess. Sorry I forgot to include that.

have you tried clearing CMOS/checking bios settings? unless that fixes it, I would check with asus, see if an RMA is needed.

The only suggestion I can make is to take your HDD out and put it in a dock/external enclosure and configure your BIOS to boot from it? At least help rule out if the SATA ports off the processor are the culprit.

I believe that the p8p67 also has a JMicron Sata controller for the external e-STATA ports so it may be simple to connect your boot drive to this port as well (i.e. don't need to take your drive out, just use an eSata cable).

Don't forget the possibility of an old boot block virus........ some of these were not designed to work too well with modern systems. I had to address a similar issue last year and resolved the problem by installing the GAG boot manager that rewrote the boot block and hence wiped the virus.

Your problem is that that motherboard is worthless. I had 4 in six months. Replace it with a product from a reputable manufacturer.

Well, I've had mine since it was introduced. Exchanged in the meantime due to Intel's chip failure. Running fine 2600K at 4.4 with 16GB of memory.

Perhaps your skills are worthless not 4 motherboards you'd had.

Reflash the bios. If that doesn't fix it, render it defective.
