Anyone have any luck with the 13O bios using the E8400 on the 965 Rev 1.0 mobo? I am waiting on my chip but managed to get the FSB up to 425 with my existing C2D. Im shooting for 4Ghz, but at 9x I dont think this board is going to work, even if it runs the E8400 at all.

I flashed to 13O bios with the E6600 and it was working fine. popped in the E8400, doesnt boot. turns on for a second, then powers off. if you hit the power button it turns on and all the fans run, but doesnt post. DONT waste your time with the rev 1.0 board!!!! get a P35-DS3L or something.

I have heard that rev 2.0 and higher will work, but dont quote me on it.
Got my P35-DS3L up to 450FSB running 4.05Ghz baby!

In anticipation of the 45nm processors I flashed my 965P-DS3 rev. 3.3 to F13o

I was not able to test an E8400 with the board but was forced to go back to F11 as F13o would not allow me to push the FSB on my E4300 beyond 200MHz! Even 201MHz and it would become very unstable and hardly load Windows no matter how much I relaxed memory timings, etc. Even at 200MHz I had errors in memtest within 30 seconds.
I flashed back to F11 and was able to go back to 333MHz FSB without overvolting or relaxing timings.

I'm actually going to try and use a Xeon 3110 which is the same core as the e8400. I'll let you know how it goes.

the Xeon 3110 (actually an e8400) came overnight so I'll be able to tell you guys how it goes on the 3.3 mobo. I'll do some memtest and orthos too

hey Piston , were you able to flash the bios on your board using a flash drive? or did you just use a floppy? also , i await hearing your results with the e8400

i will probably flash with the GUI bios program - i've had good success with that. if not i'll load it onto a floppy

this is the Xeon 3110 I'm using, but I hear it's the same, so we'll see tonight... I have it in hand but I'm at work now

DQ6 3.3 owner here with 8400 runing with beta bios fine. On the DQ6 page the 1.1 rev has the same bios and it mentiones peryn support. Sorry to hear about your issues. I take it you did update the bios to the beta one?

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...el.aspx?ProductID=2314

This is for your board there's a beta bios for yours for the 45nm cpu? So your saying it does not work even with that?

doesn't look like the Xeon e3110 is going to post even with 130 and v3.3 of 965p-ds3. Just spent 2 hours removing Tuniq Tower, mobo, replacing CPU and no post - crap. No beeps... just fans. reset CMOS - nothing

well - let this be a lesson to all of you - my mobo is now DEAD. rebuilt it 4 times and no posts at all after I tried to use the Xeon in it. I've cleared CMOS, cleaned everything and now no CPU works at all. fuck me

Wow that sucks. So the xeon killed your mobo i guessed, so much for installing the cpu wont kill your mobo rumors going around huh. Sorry to hear that, well at least now you have a reason to buy a new mobo.

sorry to hear about your problems , that had to make for an annoying day \ :
anyway, with other peoples success with the e8400, I wonder if the problem lied within the beta e8400 bios and the xeon.
my understanding is that the xeon is the same chip as e8400, but rebranded for servers, meaning it can take heat better,
so this seems unlikely, but who knows.

Well i just notice my CPU is running at 2400 and not 3000, the bios is at 333fsb but it will not run under windows at that speed, is at 266. I manually entered the bios info for 333fsb and nothing. =(

I saw another thread here about someone using a xeon in their board and possibly killing it. Was that you in that thread too, or was that someone else? Something doesn't sound right in Xeon-land. I wonder if Intel did something to the 45nm Xeons so that they don't work in a standard 775 mobo.

sadly, that as me - that board is dead. The e6600 that was originally in it seems ok though and works in another Rev 2.0 board i had from work. I'm getting a P35 board today that should be able to handle the Xeon out of the box.

If you have speedstep enabled it will run @2400 6x400 until it needs more power
Try setting the cpu stepping to 9 and then put fsb to 400 to start
Set ur pci to 100

I did, i manually OC'd the CPU to FSB 334 and set it manual but nothing it will shop ok on the bios, but will post at 2400Mhz and i have Everest on my G15 and while gaming in COD4 will only make it to 2400 and the Intel CPU identifier also says 2400Mhz reporting, but expected is 3000Mhz. So since the mobo is not really suported i dont' know if is the CPU or the POS Gigabyte Bios. I know it was working fine at 3000Mhz a week ago =(.

P.S. I did all that, set FSB to 334 multi to 9, PCI e to 100 and memory divider to 2.0 so it will match. I also disable all extra crap for the CPU like virtualization and C1 Eist and all. I even bump the multi to 9.5 since the bios had an option to increase it .5. But nothing worked. I had the German Gigabyte 12i bios, i flash to the US 12J bios and that didn't work either.
