P965 or wait for new 590

Howdy - I would appreciate some advice.
I will be buying a mobo to go with a E6600. I don't need Crossfire or SLI and I won't be OC'ing. I want to know opinions regarding any performance increases I could expect by waiting for a new 590 board and/or even if the increase is worth the extra price.
It seems to me that the P965 chipset performance is well, at least adequate.
Thanks!

I get the feeling there are more AT reviews on the way over the next couple of weeks on C2D mobo's..perhaps patients is the key work right now when it comes to buying. I was hot to trot to order a couple of weeks ago..but...now after all the mixed forum postings on so many mobo's with various configurations working and not working..its confusing. Im gonna wait a tad longer until the dust settles.

I would just buy the basic 100 dollar intel 965 board if your not OC'ing. A new chipset is very unlikely
to increase performance a lot and intel will always be the fastest with fixes and the best with support..
just look at their site compared to other makers.

If you're not overclocking and won't use SLI why would you consider a Nforce590 when you can bet they will cost about $200+?

i was going to wait for the 590 aswell slippery pete. then i learned a 590 would be overkill for me because im not going to run SLI. I've gone and orderd a P5W DH, its still pretty expensive but its a good stable board and I have heard no negative things about it other than isolated incidents and an out of date BIOS for C2D however all boards being shipped now should already come with the updated BIOS, at least i know mine is.

ASUS P5W DH AUS$385 (stable, fantastic OCer)

Gigabyte DS3 AUS$260 (durable, not suited for OCing as the north bridge gets a bit toasty)

badaxe $$ havnt checked the price myself (ive read its meant to be very stable/durable and present very few problems thorughout its life however its not a friendly overclocker)

these seem to be the most popular other than the P5N32 PREMIUM however i think we;ve established it will only benefit the SLI user. The P5W DH is still going to b a better Overclocking board i THINK, at least untill c55 comes out in a few months.

Neway im pretty sure there will be little difference between these 3 boards for the non SLI user/non OC'er, performance wise (everything running stock). I'd check with some1 more knowledgable in teh area first.

once in debug mode that Intel board is quite a decent overclocker.

I've been looking at getting an nForce 570 board (Asus P5NSLI), but now I'm debating whether it might be worth it to wait for a 590. I'm not going to be running SLI right now, but I might want it as an option later. The 570 has 2 8x PCI-X slots, and the 590 has 2 16x PCI-X slots. I guess my question is will it make a noticeable difference?

WB,
If you are going to run resolutions above 1600x1200 then you'll see performance increase. Tests show there is little to no gain at 1600x1200 or below. This could change over time but right now I believe those original tests still hold true. Considering you want SLI it would be best to wait if you can. The newer mobos are bound to be better than whats currently availble in the Conroe/SLI arena.

My guess is that you wont see much faster performance (I'll guess maybe a few percent on average if at all) but what we should see is better bios stability and the features and hardware that werent working well fixed or replaced with something that does work better. So there is an increase in performance but not necessarily in speed. Now one thing the 590 mobos that use the C55 chipset will have is better/higher overclocking than what was planned with the 590 C19 chipset. So if you want good overclocking with Conroe/SLI then best to wait a couple more months for the new 590 mobos.

FYI... nVidia cancelled their 590 C19 chipsets and decided to go with C55 chipsets but they arent ready so there's been a 2-3 month delay. Supposedly around Oct/Nov now before they are out. In the meantime I guess we'll see 2nd revision 965 and 570 mobos. Which according to rumor gets launched next week supposedly.

The C55 chipset isnt ready yet according to nVidia. As I understand it we wont see them in any mobos until Oct/Nov according to rumors. Far as I know the the 590 mobos will be the first to use the C55 chipsets. Hopefully nVidia can get them out earlier to the mobo manufacturers than what they stated.
