My store had them listed as "$150 normal, $90 on clearance". I don't know if they'd scan differently, but there was nothing to indicate that they would.

The drive I scored is an NEC ND-2500A, and has the following on the box label:

U-30213-RV1

Serial #: 41A followed by 8 more digits.

The label on the drive itself says Model ND-2500A

Manufactured: January 2004

Thanks to all who supplied the additional info, just sent the wife by with a printout of the sku and directions to the store employees to look it up, since i had been there a few days ago and was told they had no such deal. They gave the wife a very strange look but did follow my directions and were suprised to find two in the back

Well both stores i went to had the clearance tags on the shelves, but the product was in the back.

First Staples i went to was sold out, but said the other two stores in town had 3 and 4 (respectively).

Went to the one that had 4 in stock, asked a manager if i could have one, and was told they didn't have any (even though the other store had checked 10 minutes earlier). He said he would find out where they went, possibly back to the warehouse. He walks around for 5 minutes and comes back saying he dosent know where it went. One of the other employees walks over to us and says "Didn't i see one of these in the back managers office before?"

You should have seen the look on the managers face....

Needless to say, i now have a $38 DVD Burner

Still good in the ATL, picked up one today for $27.50 after I used a $10 off 30 coupon card from OM. My local Staples has no prob taking OM coupons and I get these all the time, nice to know that I can use them at the better deal store.

I have 2 Staples within 10 minutes drive of my workplace in CT - I often check there during my lunch. Both Staples have Clearance tables set up near the computer section of the store. Items are always changing, so I try to stop by at least once a week to check on the deals. In my case, I did not have to ask them to check the stockroom.

I picked up the 4X version of the Pacific Digital NEC drive (ND-1300A) last year at this time, except at that time, the clearance price was $57.50 with a $20 rebate.

My staples has the pacific digital "Mach 12" burner. I am not sure who rebadges this one. Any ideas?

Mine is a 41A,so it should be an NEC. Two left on the shelf. Both had all numerical SNs similar to Granorense's Lite-On.

Sweet, I picked up two this morning at the Union Square location in NYC. 8 minutes late to work, but still got in before the boss. Both appear to be Lite-On drives. Was hoping to score an NEC, but these suckers will do since they can be flashed as well. Going to give one to my little cousin.

Anyway, I asked the associate and they said they may have more in back. I'll check during lunch and update you guys. If anyone near Union Square really wants one and they turn out to be out of stock, I'll sell you one of mine at cost. There's another Staples near my hometown anyway.

The Lite-On 811s is really a great all around burner. It's shorter than normal and easier to fit in small computer cases (i.e., Lanboy). Rips fast and burns reliably. I was ripping about 30 CD's the other day and it left a Benq 16X and a Pioneer 4X burner in the dust. Supports KProbe disc analysis. I burn 4x +R Ridata/Ricohs in mine all day long at 8x. I could use another one for doing dual burns in Nero!

These may not be in the clearance section - ask your Staples to check stock on the sku (556595) because they may have them in the back room. That's how I got mine, for some reason not all clearance stuff is out on the floor.

I have checked all the stores in the Orlando area...not one is available. Why are the clerks there so dumb?? I called one store and the guys said...oooh those were on sale day after Thanksgiving for one day only....
