Right.. BUT if building giant robots, my first thought would be to get a sword or a giant staff or SOMETHING from the get go.. Just nit picking, its the only thing that bothered me.

Anyone remember Robot Jox?

point taken, from what i've read on the forums, they said they didn't want to use anything that would cause the acid blood to splatter everywhere, so they used missles/plasma that would damage and cauterize the wounds at the same time. apparently the sword thing was super heated as well to cut/seal also

I saw this yesterday, overall it was good for a mindless summer action flick. The acting is nothing special, but it isn't cringe-worthy (as in, say, Transformers), and the action and special effects are top notch. Plenty of the usual cliches (scene at the end when the hero's pod opens, scene where Ron Perlman gets eaten), but since the movie didn't take itself too seriously they felt more tongue-in-cheek than a real attempt at depth, so it didn't bother me as much as it would otherwise.

* The OP-ness of the sword also struck me as odd
* The whole thing about the Mark 3 being "analog" was the most idiotic thing in the movie

Sure it was visually stunning but the movie was terrible. Ran way too long for what it was and even at $7.50 I felt like I got ripped off.

That it is currently rated higher than Man of Steel on IMDB is just one reason more to doubt the future of humanity at present.

Wrong! The Kaiju Wall was the most idiotic. Like the Kaiju were going to see this wall and decide, "oh well, might as well go home then."

Man of Steel was better than I expected, but Pacific Rim was awesome! Easily the best movie of the summer so far.

I thought it was decent but like so many movies today, it would have benefitted greatly from having 20 minutes of length pared off.

Ok great sci-fi movie, of course theres plot holes in it like every sci-fi movie to make OP baddie less badass. Just sit back and enjoy the robot fighting monsters.

Id assume the wormhole cant get any bigger without added power, resonating everytime power is added in (much like the superman gravity thingy).

Wrong! The Kaiju Wall was the most idiotic. Like the Kaiju were going to see this wall and decide, "oh well, might as well go home then."

I believe the wall was part of a multi-tier defense, where the wall provides a defense and then an offensive weapon is added in later (not mentioned but an obvious requirement). I am surprised that guns like Schwerer Gustav werent made and used. But having a gun that large might have made the monsters trivial.

Again, regular AP rounds would have allowed the blood to cause collateral damage.

Just got back. Not good, not bad. It was a little long. Granted I knew that going in.

I liked that I could actually see what was going on during fight sequences.

I can give credit that the story was better than expected. Talking overall story line here. But leave your brain at the door.

Bill Paxton. Didn't know he was in it. That was awesome seeing him in it!

I saw it last night, totally delivered on what it promised, some badass fights between robots and monsters. Me and my friend watched a godzilla movie afterwards for the hell of it and we were laughing our asses off at how bad it was. Some people in this thread need to lighten up, sure there were some questionable plot points but this blows any other action movie out of the water that I've seen for a long time.

I stand corrected, yes I also felt this was extremely dumb (the analog thing bothered me more perhaps since it was actually attempting to be technical while failing miserably). The wall wouldn't have been so bad if they'd done it the right way by walling up the fissure itself (say by turning the entire chunk of ocean above it into concrete), but instead they built it the dumb way.

Saw it today. Every 5 minutes I am thinking. Tactical nuclear tipped missiles. We win.

In the comics, the first Kaiju was blown up by a nuke. But you can't nuke one of those every time they arrive because they are so close to the cities. Also, when you nuke it, all the toxic blood spills.

Absolutely retarded IMO. No idea how on EARTH this movie got a higher score than Man of Steel, which fell victim to the same fallacies.

Bad acting, WORST ASIAN ACCENT EVER, effects were good of course, but MY GOD they have so many terrible plot holes.

Why bother punching the things? Just either plasma cannon or slice them up. So many pointless attempts to fake tension by underpowering the suits.

Acting was just stupid. Too much whining about "ohhh, my brother died man" and generally terrible attempts at character development. 3/10 at best.
They punch the things because they don't want to spill the toxic blood. Again, they don't splice them up because that'd spill the blood.

Really liked the movie but just didn't understand why you would not use a sword from the beginning. Seems like a better idea then just punching.

Gypsy Danger 1 didn't have the sword. It was later added. The sword is used in emergency situations. They don't want to splice them. Notice that all the weapons were designed to "harden" the wounds right after the damage?

Worth seeing in 3D? I'd have to wait for the 10 PM show (instead of the 9:15).

Oh yea. IMAX 3D and it was an amazing experience. Well worth the money. I might see it again a second time.

I just wish they had more day time shots of the robots or a day time fight.

While a multi-tier defense would make sense, in the world of the movie it's just a wall:

http://pacificrim.wikia.com/wiki/Kaiju_Wall

I'm almost positive that the unfinished Alaska wall was shown with a battleship type turret emplacement. It was only on screen once, and only for a brief second as a part of the background. The recount of what happened in Sydney seemed to suggest it was just a wall, but it also seemed to say the project wasn't 100% ready IIRC. Either way, i doubt the implied strategy was to turtle up and ignore the monsters.

There was a lot of details that seemed like they should have been fleshed out but weren't, hoping that this gets a good extended cut blue-ray.

am I the only one who thinks that fight scenes that last longer than 5 minutes take potentially good/interesting movies and pretty much instantly turn them into snore fests?

plot with good action >>>> tons of action with minimal plot
