Packard Bell Easynote LM MS2291 not booting / no post

Hi all,

I've received a laptop from a friend which discovered his laptop not working anymore after a normal shutdown.
He asked me if I could find a solution for his problem but I'm afraid that the motherboard is dead.

Maybe some of you can give me some extra tips or can tell me what I've overlooked.

4GB ram
AMD Antlon II P320
ATI 4250
OS Windows 7

Turning laptop on:

1. Screen stays black, back light not working. So Post or any kind of logo(or BIOS) not visible
2. No sounds or beeps, only fan spinning sound
3. Harddrive spins up, same for dvd drive
4. HDD activity led jumps on for a nano second

What I've done so far:

1. Checked the harddrive for consistency and recoverable data in another hdd bay on my Desktop - OK
2. Tested the Ram Modules by changing them with the ones in an old laptop en running memtest - OK
3. Removed DVD drive, memory and HDD. Hoped for any beeps when trying to boot like this - FAIL
4. Opened the laptop en visually checked the mobo for abnormal things - FAIL
5. Removed CMOS battery - pressing 1 minute ON button without powercord or battery - FAIL

Because of complex mobo (so small) I gave up the search. Also the lack of a decent electrical schematic made me give up.


Conclusion so far - mobo damaged.

Try taking a flashlight and shining at the screen and see if anything shows. May be the backlight. Other alternative is plug into a monitor.

If anything at least the data is recoverable....

Man, Packard Bell, that takes me back 20 years...
