I live in an apartment with two roomates.
One has a desktop with a Realtek 802.11b Wireless NIC Card.
The other has a Netgear 802.11g Wireless PCMCIA Card in his laptop.
My Wireless network description is :
Utilizing a D-Link 802.11g - 2.4Ghz Wirless Router Model : DI-524
Using Latest Firmware
Security : 128bit WEP Encryption
Channel : 11
Mode : Mix mode
=============
Performance Tab Shows Following
Beacon Interval :50msec
RTS Threshold : 2346
Fragmentation: 2002
DTIM Interval : 3
TX Rates : 54
Preamble Type : Long Preamble
Antenna Transmit Power : 100% 17dBm
My computer is connected to the router through ethernet cable, since the router is located in my room about (30 feet away) from my roomates laptop.
The problem we are experiencing is when we both play counter-strike. We experience packet loss. And its only when both of us play at the same time. net_graph 3 shows (0 loss and 0 choke) with all in/out normal and stable gameplay.
Now, as soon as he joins the server my (loss) will range from about (1-5) with choke from (1-3) therefore.. making gameplay pointless...
Why is it that when we both play counter-strike together , that it causes packetloss on the network (for the both of us) which is wierd. I would say he should only be affected due to wireless limitations, and that stuff could happen. But its the both of us
I dont think its our connection bandwidth either because our ISP is RoadRunner with 6Mbit Download / and 384Kbps Upload.. There is no way two users playing counter-strike would consume either of that amount in order to saturate a network to cause packet loss or gamechoke.
Could someone help me get to the bottom of the possible problem of this? what should I do?
Many thanks in advance,
Dennis
