I dont care what he does off the field as long as it is legal.
Who gives a shit what he does off the field period? The problem isn't that athletes are poor role models, the problem is that people look up to athletes as role models. WTH does somebody who runs fast know about being a good person?
Drug testing and these kinds of things ONLY exist to mitigate the image of the black athelete to a predominantly white consumer base. It's all about selling the product, and to get past the inherent prejudice in middle america one must market it the right way.
Adam Jones is a ball player, and a very talented one. I'd love to see him play ball next year, regardless of what kind of person he is. As if we *really* know any of these people anyway.
And I'd love to see the guy that was paralyzed because of Pacman walk again.
And if Pacman is guilty of a crime, then our justice system should work and punish him accordingly. If he is unavailable to practice and/or play because of incarceration, then the team should release him. They could even seek to recoup signing bonus' and stuff like that since through his own actions he has reneged on his contractual obligation to the team.
If our justice system finds that he's OK to roam the streets, then the team should be making decisions solely upon how he's going to play. I'm just lamenting the fact that the media (and obviously the viewers) make such a big deal out of whether or not he's a poor role model that keeping him on the team can lead to lost revenue, distractions, etc. Although I understand the reality of the situation, it doesn't mean I have to like it.
And my post above was simply me talking about how I think it got to be the way it is.
