I'll try to give as much info as I have.
I'm getting this error on my sister-in-law's Dell 2400. It is a 2.2 ghz P4 with 256 mb of shared ram, I believe PC2700 DDR. Running XP Home, SP2.
She started getting this error about a month ago, and the first thing she tried was a sytem restore, but of course that didn't help. At this point, I am able to get it to boot into safe mode, but get the page fault error every time I try a regular startup.
Here is the stop error: 0x00000050 (0XF945FD00, 0X00000000, 0XF9428051, 0X00000000). WHen I looked up that error, it seemed to be pretty generic. It could be ram, virtual memory, antivirus programs, or lots of other things.
So far, I've tried disabling the page file and then setting it back to Windows managed after rebooting, reseating all the IDE cables, removing and re-adding the ram, and pulling the CMOS battery. I don't have an extra stick of ram to try. I also disabled everything from startup in msconfig. A virus scan and scandisk showed nothing.
I did run Memtest. When I ran the standard test, with the memory test set to BIOS-std, it didn't find any errors after 2 runs. When I switched to the BIOS-all scan, the error count got up to 5,206,371 before it got stuck halfway through the fourth test. That kind of has me leaning away from the ram.
The next thing I think I'll try is to try flashing the BIOS. Any other ideas?
