Page to edit .htpasswd

I'm familiar enough with HTML and CSS, but I'm clueless when it comes to website programming.

So I need to create a page on my website that a visitor can use to put in a username and password and then have it written to a .htpasswd file.

Is this possible?

Just to clarify, I need it added to the end of a .htpasswd file located at "/.htpasswds/.htpasswd" keeping the current contents intact, I also need the password correctly encrypted. The page will hopefully go in "/www/yesb/".

you can certainly do this in php

HOWEVER, it sounds like you're going to have a lot of users
maybe .htpasswd isn't your best option.

can you describe the project a bit?

I'm using .htaccess to protect a podcast RSS Feed. The reason I'm using .htaccess, is it's the only form of authorization I know of that will work with iTunes.

I'm doing this for a friend, what they would like to do is charge a monthly fee for a podcast that's updated weekly. They can do this with their shopping cart easily enough. What I need to do is create a page that the shopping cart forwards them to after purchasing, so they can enter a username and password that will then be added to the .htpasswd file, giving them access to the podcast.

I'll be hosting the podcast on my server as the server the podcast owner uses is on a Windows machine and therefor no .htaccess. (If there's is a way to do this on his server that would be even better).

As of now the podcast will have less then a hundred subscribers. But that number will grow.
