Just got back from BB with a new 9600SE for $129 + tax. I knew nothing about the card when I bought it other than I thought it should be comparable to the 9600. After I read that it has 64-bit memory I was going to exchange it for a PRO but I needed a video card tonight so I thought I would just use it untill the weekend. To my suprise and delight when I opened the box I noticed that the sticker on the card noted a 9600PRO. Using Clock Rate the default core is reported as 420 and mem at 324. This was an unopened package with the HL2 coupon enclosed.

Now it's time to overclock this puppy!

wonder if this is same thing as before where 64mb 4x version boxes of Ti4200 actually contained 128mb 8x version..

Curious, what does the serial number look like?
Did you try some speed tests?
It still may be a 64bit bus though... I also think you got those #'s switched according to ATI.

Hmm..are we going to have a bunch of people buying and returning 9600 se's till they get a 9600 pro now?

Btw, those clock speeds seem strange. Normally a 9600 pro is clocked at 400 core, 600 mem. And a 9600 np is clocked 325 core, 400 mem.

I thought that too, I'm writing it off to the O/C utility incorrectly detecting the default speeds. Anyway, at 483 core 327 mem (samsung 3.3) the card got 29,984 in aquamark3. Asus A7N8X AMD 2500+, 512ram, DX9b, Driver: 6.14.10.6378 etc

Sounds like the real deal...

edit: 1024x768 - No FSAA - 4x Ani - Max Detail.

Could you tell us:
The serial number on the box?

Futher could you:
try downloading aida32 and run it. Click on "display", then click on "gpu" and tell us what the bus width and clock speeds are?

Are you one of the people over on the Hardforum that posted about this? Think they are up to 3 or 4 people now that claim the samething.

That happened to me in July. I ordered a FX 5200 for that "$39.99" deal and when I got to the store the person at the counter gave me a 5200 Ultra. The single $40 MIR worked despite the receipt and proof of purchase not matching.

This is different, he did not know until he opened the box.

There are quite a few reports of this happening all over the internet. Might be worth checking out.

Just went and picked one up and the upc on the card says 9600 pro. I got it from Best Buy on Airport in Toledo. There were about 3 or 4 more in stock.

Could you post any markings that are on the outside of the packaging? Like if the serial number is printed on the outside, could you post the first several digitals: 85687874xxx (just block out the last 2-3 digits if you want to). Or if it has a HL2 sticker offer on the front, or any other useful identification. Thanks.
