yup.. a nice overpriced $20 version is available at Rat Shack.. or see a local computer show, most shows have a couple guys selling cables of all sorts, and they usually have the adapters

Got one at the Mall of Georgia BB, Buford GA. There were *at least* a dozen 180336xx/180339xx. Bought one of the 180336 cards, ripped open, 9600 Pro.


Coincidentally, my wifes GF2MX had started dying... games freeze a win98 system, cant upgrade driver, etc. I thought it was win98, so started the upgrade to winXP home and *poof* monitor cant sync and I can no longer see the upgrade install. I had already decided that if it turned out to be a the graphics card I was going to get one of these, so I was there and back within 20 minutes. I stuck my GF4ti4200 in her system and the 9600 pro in my system. Using the 3Dmark 2001 benchmark, they both score about the same thing, so its not much of an upgrade for me (may be better when dx9 apps and all the eye candy turned on?), but it is great upgrade from a dying GF2MX for my wife. Fairly cheap, no rebates, no hassles, DVI out, Free HL2! Yeah!

BTW, here is a list of vid cards I have bought (pointers from this forum) over the years. I manage to average $100 a card for some really kick a$$ (at the time) cards:
GF2MX: $75 (Nov 2000)
GF3Ti200: $100 (Nov 2001 Black Friday)
GF4Ti4200: $100 (Jan 2003)
ATIRadeon 9600pro: $130 (Nov 2003)

Just saw cat 3.9 drivers are out... let hope they fixed all the issues. So far, this was a hot deal with crappy drivers.

hm..since i'm upgrading ONLY because of HL2, i'm not taking that much of a gamble *IN CASE* bestbuy doesn't have a good $99 video card for Black Friday. Since HL2 isn;t coming out till AT LEAST April '04, a new best bang for the buck video card will be out by then.

Checked out the CompUSA in Roseville, MN, and the Best Buys in Roseville and at Northtown and all were 18034X... serial numbers. I'll try back this weekend or try up in Anoka once I receive my 10% off coupon.

I just popped my 5600 ultra back in and it runs FINE.
Now the real issue arises, if I want to play CoD right now I'm not using my tasty 9600 pro, this is bad because Halo looks SO good on the pro compared to the 5600.
Bleh, hoping they resolve this quickly, and yes you are right a hot deal with crappy drivers indeed.

If anyone else figures out how to get CoD to work with the 9600 please PM me!

the box says FREE HALF-LIFE 2 GAME. haven't opened it yet. (can't justify spending $140 for a graphics card, where my system itself is $300 ).

If you have a 18039, then it is a 9600 Pro guaranteed.

I read that you have to use the ogl driver from 3.5 to get CoD to work correctly. You have to download cats 3.5, then uncompress the atioglxx.dll driver onto the 3.7s set. Just like the good ole days!

anyone on the west coast have luck with this? Checked BB in El Cajon and Mira Mesa(san diego) and no 9600se's with good serial numbers, checked behind all the boxes and all around for hidden ones too.

Reno, NV area are all out. I called in to check the serials (yes, I'm that gutsy) and the guy I talked to actually knew why I was checking, so apparantly someone already got them. I did pick up one, serial 180342X..., was just a damn 9600SE.

I'm guessing that since 18034xxxxx is a higher number than 18033xxxxx then if you're store has only 18034's it's would be tough for them to get anymore 18033's in stock...
