right, along with athlon xp 1500+ and other has been cpus which you can get on ebay for $20

So, those XP 1500+s have HT or 64-bit processing ability, which AMD brought contrast to Intel's HT? And are they able to be OCed 3Ghz or even higher? I will gladly pay you 40 bucks, twice you would pay at egay, if you sell me 1500+@3G+ with HT or X86-64. PM me for offer.

I suggest to move this thread to the Collectibles/Antiques category

User1234,

Why are you so negative towards these chips and/or this deal? If it doesn't interest you, STFU and go away. There's obviously a lot of people that ARE interested in this deal.

Yes, the whole lure is the overclockability of these Xeons. Last time I checked, 2.8GHz Xeons were $285 EACH.

These low-voltage Xeons are ALL doing 2.6GHz minimum...most folks are getting to 3.0GHz with normal air cooling. Oh yeah, and the PAIR costs $120. How is that not a good thing? :roll:

If you've no interest or ability in overclocking and tinkering with hardware, don't spoil it for those of us that do.

User1234 seems to be an ass in every thread he posts in. Example.

My Xeons and PC-DL arrived today. The HSFs did not. Anyone got suggestions on something I can jurry-rig here at the house until the HSFs arrive? Want to see what this board + CPUs will overclock to.

Hey Terry, how'ya doin'?

I wouldn't risk frying your processors or damaging the board; just wait! Easier said than done, I know.

What HSFs did you buy? IWTs of EBay? That's what most of us (me included) did.

I'm saving up for an Asus NCCH-DL, myself, so trust me, I know what it feels like to wait.

OTOH, I do have my HSFs. Bring your board over and we can share a system. Hahahah!!!

Good luck to you and please be sure to post your results. :thumbsup:

ps
Are you planning on doing the uwire trick to get your voltage up?

I got the newest rev IWTs off eBay. The link should be posted in this thread, earlier up. Paid a total of $19.88 for a pair.

U-wire mod is already done and the CPUs are in their sockets.

I'm not going to do something stupid - I've been doing this for far too long to screw up like that. That said, I'm thinking of laying the mobo out and just sitting a pair of S478 Intel heatsinks on top of the Xeons to benchtest it.

Ah, that's right; I read that...now I remember. My bad. You got the 3.2GHz copper IWTs, right? That's way cool. You're definitely prepared! Best of luck, man. Please post your results.

My experiences so far.
2x1.6LV
PC-DL v1005
Antec 550 EPS Truepower
Cooler Master heatpipes (no fans)
ram good enough to OC 3.2 Xeons as high as possible should I want to upgrade CPUs in future

Everything went together easily. It posted first try. I let the thermal gunk (Ceramique) age for a couple days while running four instances of Folding@Home at 1.6Ghz.

Started overclocking ... 2.0...2.2..._...2.5... at 2.6 it would not even post, back to 2.5 for several days. Got Mother Board Monitor --- 69C case (VRM) temp? and 59 & 58 CPU temps?? hmmm - made a bracket from aluminum angle bar stock to mount a 120mm fan pointing at VRM, NB, and both CPUs. Temps are now 46, 44, 43

Still can't get higher stable OC. They told me at 2CPU.com that I need more voltage. Pin mods, wire mods, I think I'll leave it like this for a while till I get up the nerve

Overall very positive experience: dual Xeons with HT @ 2.5 for $57/CPU

Just don't ask how much the heatpipes cost - but it is the quietest computer I have owned!

Hey guys, are the overclocks to 2.5/2.6 GHZ stable enough to use as a dedicated file/application server? If so I am so jumping in if they ever get more in stock, else I will have to go with dual oppy for a bit more $$

Yea I was thinking the same thing.

I got my chips and am ALSO saving up for a NCCH-DL.

Nothing is absolute when overclocking; you might get that one dud. That said, almost always people seem to hit 2.5GHz at stock voltage at 2.8-3.0 at 1.6V and stable enough to run F@H.

Dunno what universe you're living in, but a dual Opteron setup is going to cost more than "a bit more $$" compared to this setup.

Also, if anyone's wondering: The PC-DL comes with two plastic adapters to allow the mounting of a stock Intel S478 heatsinks. I checked, the fit is perfect.

That's good news about the adapters being able to use standard P4 heatsinks. Go for it! Please let us know how you do.

Gleem, where did you get the Cooler Master heatpipes? I ordered 2 from Orbit Micro a week ago but they are still out of stock.

I was visiting a friend who builds 1U rack servers.
He had a bunch of stock intel windtunnel coolers.
They are complete and sealed except don't have
the plastic motherboard mounts or the thermal
paste in the syringe.

They do have the fan, heatsink, steel mounting clips
and 4 screws. Also the plastic windtunnel.

I have 5 of them sitting next to my computer
in case someone needs some.

I am in the los angeles area.

I am using them, and OC to 2.1g (16*133) my cpus
run around 40 - 41C.

No fans at all? Do you have the IWT shroud on them, or are the HS's just "bare?" What are your temps?

@MichaelD
I really overspent on the ram, but I wanted something that would not hinder OC if I should eventually get faster CPUs. I went with what the AnandTech reviewers gave the Choice to. 2x512MB OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev. 2 (they are still @ 2 2 2 5)

@MaskedAvenger
I ordered my heatpipes (the 01s) from Orbit Micro late on Thursday, August 26, they shipped on Friday and I got them on Thursday, September 2. Unless your case has really good air flow past the VRM it will get hot and heat up the CPUs when you OC and run at full load.

Hey MichaelD, I just snagged two Double Gromacs WUs (nice ppd ) and with one of those BigWUs and TSC running to give a full load I hit my highest temp since I added that fan - 45, 45, and 47C on the VRM, that's with that fan at its slowest speed. I think I done good

One of these days I will get up the nerve to mod these to get higher OC

I just got my CPUs and board this week from this deal and I am waiting on my powersupply. I ordered a Sparkle 460w EPS+12v from ZZF. Still deciding on heatsinks though. I have a set of the IWT but not sure I like them and trying to see what else is out there before I put it all together. So if there are any suggestions on a good aftermarket heatsink in the 20-30 a piece range let me know. Also if some one is looking a set of IWT heatsinks I will be selling mine that I got of ebay.

Nope, no CPU fans. Just the bare heatsinks and the rear 120MM fan blowing in from the rear.

Idle temps: CPU1: 37C, CPU2: 42C

Running 2 instances of Prime95 100% CPU usage:

Full temps: CPU1: 51C, CPU2: 55C

What I might do is buy some temp sensing 60MM fans, just so the temps don't go too wild on hot days.

This computer will be sitting idle most of the time. It's taking over the role of my file/encoding server.

Nice ram: I may have to get some of that stuff when the time comes. The last time I purchased "real ram" was two years ago when 1GB of 2-2-2-5 PC3200 was about $150. Now it's almost twice that. :disgust: I agree with trying to "future proof" yourself though. Purchasing quality parts never hurts you in the long run!

Nice luck on the WUs!! I never did mod my command lines to net me those 512MB+-sized WUs; I'm down to three boxes right now as I loaded up Linux on the fourth just to play....it sucks, so I'll be reloading Windoze soon.

@Splice
It's amazing that you're getting such good performance and temps with essentially your case fans configured incorrectly. Really. In 99.99% of setups out there, both desktop and servers, the front fans suck in (intake) and the rear fans blow out (exhaust) I guess your PS is the only exhaust in your case, then...what are your case temps? Your situation is just...so strange......that it's unusually incredible.

Dual oppy will cost 400 more but its for business use, so 400 is not much

I don't see these adapters in either neweggs photos or on the asus website.

Can anyone else confirm that these adapters come with the pc-dl?

I have 2 of the E3W-NPTXC-01 Heatpipe based heatsinks on order from Orbit-Micro and they seem to be having a hard time getting them in from the manufacturer. (I called in and the lady said they where still "on the boat")

It would be nice to have another option...

@DocZavage
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, the PC-DL comes with 2x2 plastic adapters, must be for IWT. It also comes with two metal backplates. The CM-01s come with their own adapters and plastic backplates. One of my CM-01 plastic backplates had a nut that had bad threads, so I used the PC-DL metal backplates with the CM mount adapters without problem. I like these heatpipes (info on mine in above posts)

@MichaelD
The ram came early so I tried it in my P4 3.0@3.3 to see if I could get a better OC. It corupted my logon in WinXP I didn't know that could happen!?!?
