Pakistan Attacks Taliban Stronghold

The news from Pakistan is that they are planning on a counter-attack against the taliban. The bad news is they tried to pacify the Taliban and it did not work. Now the Taliban is bombing them right and left and they are being forced to fight back whether they want to or not. This is important because this shows that if we try to leave people like this alone or we think we can pull out of Afghanistan, then what is happening in Pakistan will continue to happen in Afghanistan. Then if we leave they will start targeting the next country to take over. Either we take the fight to them or they will take the fight to us. Take your choice!

The only thing that the Pakistani army is interested in is all the high-tech weaponry and moolah that's raining down on it from Washington. Look at how indignant the GHQ beggars became when being told that the money being sent over has to actually be spent on the Pakistani people. The army is the p*mp that sees Pakistan as nothing more than it's ho to be sold to the highest bidder in this singular obsession.

I've been out of the country. I'm in Iraq in fact on pilgrimage. Will get to that later when I'm back. Except I have to say, people are happier with Saddam gone but everything is at least 10x more expensive since the last time I was here (in 2001). Except for beefed up security on check points life seems pretty much normal. They're starting direct flights soon from Najaf to Karachi soon so I'll be visiting more often now

Back to Pakistan, I think this offense has been planned for months. Most Pakistanis can not wait for the army to end the Taliban threat once and for all. It seems like the Taliban may have regrouped to some extent but the recent attacks are nowhere near the scale of what we saw before Swat. I hope this is over soon. I think victory very well depends on how much the people of Waziristan hate the Taliban. It depends on the diplomacy of the people involved. We must remember that this area has always had a great deal of autonomy since the British rule. Not even the British could establish full control here. The army needs to get the tribes to help them fight. Once the Taliban are defeated, they must set up a permanent base here to increase their control over this area over the years.

I learned from my trip to Iraq; the media makes everything sound 10x worse than the ground situation when they want to.

As far as the 15$billion aid bill is concerned I think America's war in Afghanistan has cost us much more. The current situation in Pakistan is a direct result of that. Before that nobody knew what the Pakistani Taliban was. Foreign forces invading an "Islamic State" is the fuel the greedy Taliban mullahs used to ignite hatred in parts of the population which gave birth to this monster. But what's done is done. We could use that $15billion to give our economy a head start. I dunno, but we are not as bad in economic terms as you americans perceive us to be.

Except the Pakistani government, which funded, equipped, trained, and exported them. Don't pretend like America or any other foreign government had nearly as big a role in creating what we are now fighting.
