Palamino compatability issues - iWill KK266-R

I recently purchased an iWill KK266-R, and I was wondering if it would be compatable with the new AMD Palamino that will be coming out soon.

Also, all I know about the Palamino, is that it will be on a 13micron (something like that) thick die, and that it will start out at 1533MHz. Any more info on it?

Well, you can probably get more info by reading Anand's Intel and AMD roadmap 2001 article. But going off my poor excuse for a memory I think AMD is planning to make the Palomino compatible with existing chipsets/mobos except for a good BIOS update of course. I do not think, however, they are planning a die shrink. As far as I know it will still be on .18 but have a small core redesign that will allow it to run cooler and hopefully maybe a little more efficiently. The first to pull off .13 will be Intel I think in order to make their sorry excuse for a cpu actually cheap enough for the public to buy.

I'm sure the Palomino will require a new chipset. This way AMD can make more money. I mean so many people switched from athlon classic to thunderbird whether they needed the speed or not.

No I believe AMD will make Palomino compataible with their current MOBOs if they can.Remember AMD does not sell mobos. they design it (amd760...blah blah) but they do not personally market it like intel does. They rely heavily on third party vendors like via to provide the chipsets for their cpu. If they were to release a cpu that is compataible with current MOBOs that means people looking for an upgrade won't have to buy a new mobo making upgrading much more bearable. And for the oems and third party mobo makers... no inventory that won't work with latest technology and no worry abt issues with new mobo tech.

Anyway... AMD did say Palomino is gonna be compataible... so no worries... unless they suddenly change their minds... then it will suck for someone like me.

I think it would be very stupid move from AMD if they were to make it incompatible. Many of us here are going to upgrade when Palomino appears, but how many would if it would also need new chipset (read: new mobo)?

There was a thread about this a few days ago and most people said they are pretty much sure it will work though would probably need a BIOS update. I don't know if only the motherboards that support 3phase power will support them or not. But just to be safe, the IWill does so I think it would.

It won't be on .13 micron for a while.

And besides, there's no new chipsets coming from AMD at the time of the Palomino.
