The savior to Firefox lovers who hate Firefox's new Australis interface just got better.

This browser is even faster than Firefox thanks to its tweaked code which makes use of newer hardware such as multi-core CPUs

100% compatible with all Firefox add-ons.

One of the best new things about this upgrade is now Pale Moon has its own Sync Server to sync all your bookmarks, history, etc.

Change Log:

  • Allow animated personas (lightweight themes)! You will need to set a preference for this.
  • Fix regularly occurring browser crashes with hardware acceleration enabled on DirectWrite 6.2/6.3 (Win 7 with Platform Update, Windows 8/8.1).
  • Fix font rendering issues on DirectWrite 6.2/6.3, especially on legacy AMD hardware. (KB2670838 issues).
  • Fix Windows version detection issues on Windows 8.1.
  • Shuffle reported plugin installation order to confuse trackers.
  • Clean up jumplist icons so they no longer pile up on disk on some systems (also a privacy concern).
  • Change the sync server to a (new) Pale Moon sync server.
  • Update the status bar code: Full-screen HTML5 video will no longer have status pop-ups overlaid.
  • Add code to selectively ignore "autocomplete=off" on signon input fields.
  • Linux: reduce gstreamer CPU overhead.
  • Fix styled HTML buttons to address misaligned button contents (wrong baseline), e.g. gmail account chooser.
  • Fix an old IonMonkey bug resulting in incorrect math results in some cases.
  • Improve the performance of editor initialization.
  • Update the Pale Moon icon for better display on lower color depths.
  • Media: use a simpler way to discard superfluous audio packets.

Security Fixes:

  • Bug #994907 - imgDecoderObserver does reference counting on different threads, so should be using thread safe reference counting.
  • Bug #992274 - Tweak an edge case in line number handling.
  • Bug #995603 - Ensure mouse-enter/exit events are sent to plugins as appropriate.
  • Bug #1005552 - Stop binding marquee event handlers + misc related fixes.
  • Bug #1000185 - Fix several issues with SMIL.
  • Bug #978811 - Fix isFakeExitFrame to return true for entry frames.
  • Bug #996715 - IonMonkey: Remove the code that bails when determining if the second instruction in a chunk is a branch.
  • Bug #967354 - Fix incorrect usage of UpdateWebGLErrorAndClearGLError();

In addition, Pale Moon also has a public Git repository now:

I went back to FF after 3 days. I did not notice any such speed improvements, although the browser did operate fine.

FF 24.5 VS Pale Moon 24.5 = Pale Moon is faster (due to the enhanced/tweaked code)

FF 30 VS Pale Moon 24.5 = same speed (since FF has had a lot of internal upgrades to its engine)

now the only reason people might want to use Pale Moon is because it keeps the old interface which most of us like.

Yes, I know, there are a few tricks to try to make FF look like the old version but I've tried them, they're not exactly the same plus I don't want to go through the hassle of changing the internals of a browser just to make it look right, I'll just stick to Pale Moon which already looks great and works perfectly.

just my 2 cents

Welcome, I will report this in the forums a I didn't get a notification as well. Additionally, I notice this is the 2nd time you are posting the samething about internal updater not doing its thing.

PS: did you try the new Pale Moon Sync? now it syncs everything just like Chrome does

That is probably the only it.

I don't bother changing FF, it just worked as good as Pale Moon. There was just no reason to use Pale Moon, for me.

I tried switching back to Firefox and really tried to get used to the new fugly interface but I just couldn't. Everytime I used it for about 2 days, I found myself quickly uninstalling it and installing Pale Moon and the moment I do, it felt like I'm home again! so much better.

I guess it just burns down to personal preference at the end of the day and what works for you. nothing is best or worse IMHO especially when it comes to browsers.

Like 95% of the people I know use Chrome, I tried to use it many times and tried to get used to its even fuglier interface. but it's simply horrible, horrible bookmarks manager....my Internet Download Manager works when downloading stuff with it, but it also has a feature that allows you to download any video you're watching on a website. That feature is broken in Chrome, sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesnlt. Offcourse it may not be Chrome's fault, but to me as a user, just didn't work for me.

just my 2 cents worth

Reply from Moon Child about this, it has now been fixed:

Moonchild said:
The "automatic install not working" has been an issue for some setups because of poorly documented server-side components but that has already been addressed (see other threads here).

Also, MAR files are distributed through a CDN for Pale Moon, and it may not work if you try to update the very second the announcement goes out. You can still just download the installer as it points you to.

The only good time to switch to Pale Moon for performance would be after the next Firefox ESR release in September (v31) when Pale Moon will update to the new engine. Right now the difference is academic.

I've stayed with PM for aesthetic reasons, I was sick of having to reverse pointless UI changes. As for performance, unless the author of PM achieves something significant like a 50% speed advantage, it's unlikely to be noticed, just like I probably wouldn't notice if my processor was suddenly 10% faster.

I used to use Pale Moon x64, but I started having conflicts a few programs so I think I'll stick with FF.

Might try it on the side again.

I never had luck with the x64 version because it will not work with one of the addons I use regularly which is IETAB

With that said, it isn't Pale Moon's fault, that add-on just won't work as it is used on a x64 version which is fine, it works then, but if the site you want to use needs flash player, even if you install the x64 version of flash player IETab won't use it. so I`ve always stuck to the x86 version of Pale Moon and had 0 issues. Try it, then compare it to Firefox, don't compare an x64 version to an x86 browswer

I'm using Palemoon x64 and I love it. What I dig the most is the ability to switch between output devices (e.g. speakers / headphones) "on the fly" when watching streams, meaning you don't have to reload streams / videos to do so.
I guess it's more an issue of Adobe Flash Player 32Bit though that you can't do that with FF (as it is 32bit only). Right?

Hummmm. I use the 64-bit version and have no issues....tho I don use IETab.

I tried one of the Windows versions and it was ok. I see he recently released a Linux version so I might give that a try.

ive been using it on my laptop and I like it. Few things annoy me however im sure they can be changed

why is the default zoom level over 100%? I noticed this when comparing it to opera. Forums always looked strange until I zoomed PM back out

new pages (might be limited to youtube) auto scroll the page down some amount of lines. on youtube it does it so much that it cuts the top of the vids off

I never had this issue. What OS and resolution and dpi are you using? Does Ctrl-0 (Zero) reset it back to 100%? Maybe Opera uses different fonts by default?
