Overwhelming majorities in the UK and other western European countries believe Palestinians should have their own state and want their governments to vote for recognition of Palestine at the United Nations at the end of the month, according to latest polls.

Not a problem. Egypt can give Hamas some of their land and then you can have Palestinistan or whatever. Perfect solution. Or maybe Europe can carve a slice out of England or France. Then they could have it all.

It would allow Israel to seal the borders of Gaza from any assistance now passing through Israel. How long do you think it el take for the Arabs and world to spin up support?

Provocation would still be dealt with as before.

Destruction would be worse. Israel is implicitly accepting responsibility. When they do no have to, gloves could come off. Also stronger/deadlier munitions are available from the Palestinian side.

I say give them some land, let them govern it and make Israel recognize their government. If attacks against Israel continue Israel is green lighted to go in and raze it all and kick all the Palestinians into Egypt.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of those in favor of a Palestinian state are actually aware of the fact that the West Bank and Gaza are two separate entities, both geographically and politically. Public opinion on the "palestinian issue" in Europe has been based on so much pro-palestinian journalistic bias that polls such as these don't have much weight. European governments have cleverly allowed public discourse on the subject to be dominated by populist support for Palestine (perhaps as a tool to appease the arab world which they see as a threat) while on the high politics level they always walked the fine line between frowning upon israeli brutality and actually being anti-Israel. If you think Europe looks culturally at Palestine the way Turkey does, you are awfully wrong. In any case, a 2 state solution right now is objectively only something which can be accepted in the Fatah-dominated West Bank, and between an increasing islamist influence in Gaza and Egypt, a Syria mired in civil war and a Jordan experiencing the stirrings of a revolt, I think any European lip service to the Palestinian cause at the UN will not go very far.
