Palin won't meet with 'Troopergate' investigator

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A campaign spokesman says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won't speak with an investigator hired by lawmakers to look into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

McCain campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan told a news conference Monday that the governor, the Republican nominee for vice president, will not cooperate as long as the investigation "remains tainted." He said he doesn't know whether Palin's husband would challenge a subpoena issued to compel his cooperation.

The campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats. It says it can prove Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired because of insubordination on budget issues -- not because he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

Looks like they'd like to delay the conclusion until after the election.

That's new about budget issues, she has always said the reason was the nonsensical 'new direction' she wanted for the force.

Memo to myself, next time I rob the bank, I will call the cops who arrest me politically motivated. And they will be quite properly shamed and go away leaving me free to spend my ill gotten gains.

Failing that appeal, I shall appoint Non Prof John, Pabster, and TLC as co heads of my free Lemon Law committee. As the Lemon Law One, I am bullet proof against conspiracy charges.

The timing really sucks for the Palin Defense Force. Everything about the investigation will be under a microscope. If her husband doesn't appear under the subpoena, that'll be in the news. If she doesn't cooperate, that will be in the news. When the results are released, that will be in the news.

Yeah and the insubordination on budget issues was according to Palin's people, trying to get more money to investigate and prosecute sexual assualt.

The "last straw," the campaign said, was a trip Monegan planned to Washington in July to seek federal money for investigating and prosecuting sexual assault cases."

I think the repubs are running scared now. I think this can REALLY end up biting them in the a$$ bigtime. If she has nothing to hide, I don't see why she shouldn't come forward and clear the air.

She must be hiding something and the longer she waits to respond the more likely this could blow up in her face at the end of October, which would reduce chances for a GOP win.

Agreed, especially in these times of economic uncerntainty. As someone who is for government reform and responsibility this kind of makes her look like she's running from the issue. I don't see the big deal about going there getting tons of press and clearing the issue. That would raise polls immediately unless she has something to hide.

This is the same Sarah Palin who was mayor of Wasilla when rape victims had to pay for their own forensic tests?

LOL @ you guys' optimism. All Palin and McCain have to do is lie lie lie, and the American public will eat it up. If she says the investigation is tainted, that's what people will believe.
