Another news is that ASUS GTX 285 Ultimate has finally been confirmed and listed on ASUS site. 712/1620/2760 are its final clocks, 8 MHz lower on core and 12 MHz (6x2) lower on memory than EVGA FTW, same shader speed. Not bad but "only" second fastest GTX 285 out there.

As for the Palit card, 2 GB may indeed make sense in some games (not only GTA IV) in 1920*1200 and especially 2560*1600 with AA enabled. Too bad that it's just a standard clocked 285, despite custom cooling. Maybe Palit's sister company Gainward can release a Golden Sample GLH (or whatever) version with the same cooler and 2 GB RAM but also a factory overclock competing against ASUS Ultimate / EVGA FTW or at least BFG OCX / Zotac AMP! / EVGA SSC.

Anyway, it would be interesting to see reviews of that Palit card. 3 main questions would be:
- does the extra gig of VRAM bring anything?
- is the cooler quieter than the reference one?
- is the card a particularly good overclocker?

A card with ~FTW clocks, 2 GB RAM and quiet, efficient cooling would be probably tempting enough for me to go and spend the money, despite owning a 280 FTW.

If anything, it certainly makes better sense than equipping and underpowered gpu with 2GB ram. At least the gpu is worthy. Big displays folks, take a good look at this one..

I'm very interested in seeing the results and benches on this part. Recent games with massive textures along with the increased accessibility of AA on high-end parts at high resolutions has quickly made additional VRAM a limiting factor in many games. There's clearly benefit of more VRAM going back as far as the 8800GTX/Ultra along with new info with a 1GB 9800GTX+. In the upper mid-range there's the clear example of 512 and 1GB version of the 4870 and examples where the 896 260 and 1.8GB 295 seem to lag behind the 1/2GB competition due to VRAM. There's no way to see if the 280/285 would benefit from more VRAM as there's simply nothing else to compare them to. With this part, there will be.

Is this a di^H^H^H card schwinging contest? Maybe I'll get BFG to put out a faster GTX 285 just because, LOL. Factory overclocks are just a combination of acceptable bin rates and marketing posturing. I think BFG announced overclocked models clock speeds first, thus was "beaten." Back when the GTX 280 first came out, BFG and EVGA announced their watercooled cards on the same day. The BFG card just happened to have a higher clock by a few MHz, so the next day EVGA "re"-announced their GTX 280 watercooled with a higher clock.

LOL you can't even run this in 32-bit imagine SLI-ing you'd run out of addressable space just with the video cards alone.

I cant imagine anybody looking at a gtx285 would be using a 32bit OS.

This should come in under $400 right? If so, we've come a long way in barely more than a year.

Thankfully they left that frog off the actual card, too. What the hell is up with that mascot..

The factory OCed cards are a good way to earn a few extra bucks. If some selected chips easily do higher speeds than reference, why not sell them at a premium? Plus, I guess it's a bit of a prestige race. Looks like EVGA will stay "the champ" this round, having the fastest horse in its stables.

As for the frog, it's quite horrible indeed but IMO no more than other "Lara-wannabes", "fierce orks with glowing eyes", "grim riders of doom with wings", etc. To be honest, I find most of the video card art absolutely abysmal and ridiculous. Not that it matters much, however. The card will hang in your case upside down anyway, so as long as it's fast, I really couldn't care less what is painted on its heatsink cover.

This thing is going probably going to come in at almost the price of 2 standard GTX 285's. If there is such thing as a niche product within a niche product, this is it!

Yeah, no way it's gonna be so expensive. I think it will settle between 285 and 295, probably closer to 295's price like the top factory OCed models (e.g. EVGA FTW).

Have you seen the price of high-end GPU's that come overclocked with water-blocks? Although this is not exactly the same thing, Palit could put a large price premium on this since they would be the only company (for now) that is making this card. Why would they sell these for marginally more, and be sold out right away, when they can jack up the price and still be sold out? I would be suprised to see this less than the 295...

Well, you may be right or wrong, its not like any of us have a crystal ball or anything.

Anyway, right or wrong doesnt doesnt matter to me.

Once they show up we'll all look at the pricing and performance and decide if its worth whatever price Palit asks.

Full-coverage blocks are expensive. The factory water-cooled cards are only a bit more than putting together your own setup using the same block, so to many it is worth it.
