do you ever stop? you gives a rats behind about the Heaven benchmark?

Uh, I linked to the first page of the article. Feel free to read the entire article including all the games they benchmarked. Also they used a 460 clocked at 725mhz and the card listed in the first post is 700mhz. So yeah.

Look before you leap.

SE is a cut down gpu that has 288sp/48tmu instead of 336sp/56tmu but still retains 256bit bus and 32rops. the 768mb version is usually slightly faster in most cases.

$165 for a 768mb is not a very good deal. there have been 768mb models as low as 115 bucks. the Palit 1gb model for $129 in this thread is not an SE as for as I know.

Yeah I started reading the specs closer and say the 336 cores, just caught me off gaurd.

Is Palit a good brand? Green side I've only owned EVGA, XFX, and BFG.

Looking at it some more it is fugly, but considering you'll probably only see it twice (install/replace) if it doesn't break down I can live with it. The reference cooler models look nicer in my opinion.

Had one of these in my hands this morning, but decided to wait. It seems the prices are dropping like flies on these 460. I'll wait till EVGA, Asus, or one of the other big brands drops their prices. The Newegg reviews for this model show some possible reliability issues.

Yeah I was reading the newegg reviews, but noticed on the first page multiple Andrew's made the same complaint.

I'd also prefer another EVGA, but this price is so tempting.

no they are not. either way its just a benchmark and not a game. the 6950 is faster than a stock 460 for sure but not by very much. if you oc both the 6850 and gt460 then the gtx460 is going to be the faster card.

This.

Sure the 6850 can be OC'd, but there really isn't another GPU around right now that has the OC headroom that the 460 currently has. At stock the 6850 may have a slight edge (<5&#37 but after a good overclock [on both cards], the 460 will be the winner in most games. For $129 there is no better bargain around.

Overclock the GTX460, Overclock the GTX460, Overclock the GTX460 ,Overclock the GTX460, Overclock the GTX460....I get it...blah, blah blah!

How about we talk overclocked HD 6850? No one around here seems to be taking that into consideration...

HD6850 can be OC'd to 900 core/1150 memory easily.

6850 can be oc'd, but NOT easily to 900/1150.

Updated my post to be more clear. The 460 generally has more headroom (as I stated ad nauseum) and with both OCd the 460 will tend to be faster.

People have gotten it as high as 1,000 (w/ voltage increase)

True, but the 460 starts at lower clock speed compared to the 6850 and tends to reliably OC to better performance levels. Most 460s reviewed hit around 850mhz OC without a voltage change (~%25). For a 6850 to get a 25% OC, it has to hit 1000mhz which is much harder to do compared to an 850 OC on the 460.

I am not saying the 6850 is a bad card, and these are both very close in performance, but if these cards are similar prices and you plan to OC them into the dirt then the 460 generally has more headroom. Some 460s can also hit upwards of 900-950 mhz, but it's VERY tough to top 1050 on the 6850 architecture without exotic cooling.

I said when BOTH the 6850 and gtx460 are overclocked.

This ^

I am building a dirt cheap AM2+ 940BE system for my kids for Xmas and have been looking for an excuse to give my GTX 260 to them so I can upgrade. But frankly, I really haven't found anything compelling for < $250 that would be a big enough upgrade for 19x12 gaming. And I missed the 5870 $224 deal recently.

You can get a Sapphire 5870 for $220 AR with coupon code EMCZNZV76

Awesome price on that card. That's some great horsepower for $130.

I thought the 10.12 drivers were already out and showed no notable change for the 6850/6870.

omg (yes, I used lowercase), i can't believe they didn't come thru...

OK, enough sarcasm, still hanging on to the Rage debacle, so shoot me...
