For a product that 3Com claims is in short supply, Buy.com seems to have gotten a lot of them

Now, what I really want is Palm Vx. Is it possible to return this to a local store and get a Vx for the price difference? Anybody know which store (OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, BestBuy, or CircuitCity) allows you to do this?

Thanks.

hmm...i think i heard somewhere that the international version is not as good or something. not really sure. anyways...seems like an ok deal. as for upgrading to Vx...depends on the store manager. works some places...some places it doesnt...best way to find out is ask.

I've been wanting a PDA for a long time was thinking about picking up a $100 M100 from RedGorilla, but this deal was too good to pass up

Don't forget to go through eBates to get an additional $6.60 back! (Or you could try Pointclick's 5%, but they'll never come through with it.)

how2 - Search eGay for "palm v". You'll see how easy they are to sell

Is the $50 off $500 coupon still working? If so, I should have grabbed 2 + something cheap for $501 - $50 = $451 - $13.50 (eBates) = $437.50 shipped after eBates.

If I could get $300 for one on eGay, then that would mean I got a Palm V for $137.50. Too late to do this now though.

Just a word of wisdom to those with fleabay intentions.

Remember that the replies you see only represent maybe 20% or less of those who have read this thread (lurkers) and it never fails that any good deals wind up on fleabay. So the average price will be lowered on fleabay once they hit there en masse.
Nothing against fleabayers! (I'm a 100plus feedback fleabag guy myself)

But then again, fleabag buyers always surprise me. I just sold a used 30gig 5400rpm for the same price I bought a new top rated 30gig 7200rpm.

The safe bet is that you can always get your money back on fleabay if you change your mind so go for it!

Can anybody tell me what is the main difference between the Palm V and the Palm III? Seems on their webpage, the Palm III has more option, so why is the Palm V better?

This IS a damned good price for a Palm V. However, if you compare the specs between the V and the IIIxe, the IIIxe is a FAR superior product. 8MB on the IIIxe vs only 2MB for the V. So, factoring in the deal at buy.com, we have two products at the same starting price of $249. The question becomes: Is the difference in memory made up for by the shiny look of the V and a rechargeble battery? IMHO, no way. (of course there IS that $30 coupon to consider as well.)

I agree with cycloscott. I recently purchased a Palm IIIxe from Best Buy (I could get a 3year warranty and replacement in case the screen broke or other stuff that 3com may not warranty) and am very happy with it.

I almost was ready to take it back after seeing the Palm V deal until I realized it only had 2MB of RAM. I don't think memory is upgradeable on any of these palms, so I am sticking with my IIIxe. A Palm V with 2MB of RAM is like having a corvette with a two gallon gas tank. It is cool but you can get a lot more use with a car with a bigger gas tank.

As far as their Road Scholar CD, I believe a lot of that is free software you can already download. I know the AvantGo software is.

My question still stand,
Are there any difference between the Palm V and the Palm IIIxe beside the memory.

Does it have a faster processor or something besides just looks?

Same OS, Processor, same screen size and resolution, just different looks (and the memory difference, but you already knew that.) It is a good deal, though. Hope that helps.

does it include the hotsync cradle? because it's not listed, and i've checked ecost.com and they specifically list a hotsync cradle in their descriptions. remember the hot sync is another 50 bucks. and the upgrade from os 3.0 to 3.5 is another 20 which means.. if you use the coupon to drop it down to 220... add the upgrade and the hotsync cradle, it ends up being 290... not much of a deal after all if you look at it that way.

I thought the PalmV series had a better screen than the PalmIII series. Is this true?

Here are some Palm resources for updgrading/overclocking your PalmV(if you have the guts...I don't)
