Palm VII for $99.88 at OD B&M

Got one!

Here's my story.

Goto the local OD. They are out of stock in the computer. But then I go to the display, and what do you know? They have one! I call the manager over. They won't sell it to me. Say that it's a display model, and that it must go back to Palm. I tell them that the other OD's were selling theirs. No dice. I then ask the manager to take down my name and phone number in case they find out they don't have to send it back to Palm. Left for work that day.

I then decide to stop in after work. Turns out now the display model has been removed. Oh-oh, wonder what happened to it? This time, call the store manager over. She says that it was probably pulled and stored. I ask her to make sure that it wasn't sold, becuase I was supposed to have it first. She says that she would contact the manager that I talked in the morning to see what happened, and would give me a call. Went home.

Next day, stop in again. Talk to manager again. Turns out she found that it was stored in the back room waiting for me! She warned me it didn't have a manual or software, I told her I didn't care. She went to retrieve it. Right before she gets to the cash register, she drops it! But, it landed on the carpet, and appears ok. The price was $48.88, too!

The moral of the story -- be persistent!

I saw a display palm VII at OD today, but it was a fake one. They have been using the dummy ones for a while in FL. oh well...
glad to see some are still out there.
what will go on clearance next? palm IIIc?

Someone posted a 15 off from 50 coupon for OD a few posts/pages back. That printable one doesn't expire till 2/24/01.

Do PM rules vary a lot from store to store (competitor to competitor) or do they all say they don't pricematch discontinued items?

I'm positive the $15 off $50 is legit. I also saw one of those coupons in the local newspaper the other day so I know they're not that scarce.. might have to look though. Worst case, if the coupon posted awhile back in this thread is edited, it would probably fool the salespeople there.. hehe.

I found the Palm VII on OD website listed at 49.88 and I printed it out and took it to staples to attempt to PM, if you do not login to the OD website it will show it in stock. Well at 2 different Staples, and trying staples via the phone no luck what so ever the manangers were reluctant and said that they could not take $200 off the price. Also they are discontinuing it the manager said. so here is a link to the website and if anyone is successful in getting more then one please PM and I will buy the other one. also it might not show up when you first put in but just refresh and it will show up.

Make sure you ask them if they have a floor model!!! When I called they told me that they had none in the store and I asked them to check and see if they had a floor model that they could sell. Sure enough they had one. They told me that it was $219 and I asked them to ring it up and she said "Oh, it rings up for $99!". I told her to please hold it and I would be right there. It is in mint condition with everything included! Thanks guys for posting this deal!!!

Your absolutley not going to believe this........ I live in Mobile, AL. I go to the Office Depot here and they dont have any. I have already had several run ins with the manager on other deals. Everytime I alert her to a deal she takes them all for herself and wont sell them to me. I now have to make sure shes not working and go straight to a young sales clerk.

Anyway, I drive to Pascagoula Mississippi last night (only about a 30 minute drive) and I get in there. They have 3 units and the display. I get to the checkout and the manager is waiting on me. She rings it up and it comes up the $49 price. She looks at me in total disbelief and laughs and says "Im not selling you these for that price" I said " WHAT ??? " I said "Why ?" Can you believe that she actually told me " I want one of these for myself ! " At this point, the employees are gathering around hooping and hollering about how they want one and she would not even sell me ONE !!!! I started screaming that this is unfair and that I was gonna call corporate. She told me if I didnt leave she was going to call the police.

They dont even care if you call corporate. If anyone knows how I can get something done, I sincerely want to get this w*ore fired !!! She made me so mad that I almost punched her. She is supposed to be a professional and she not only insulted me but absolutely refused to sell me a product because she and all the employees wanted it. There has got to me something I can do. PLEASE HELP ME !!!! I want to nail this girl and the manager at my store.

Thats what I get for living in Alabama. This place and Mississippi is BACKWARDS !!!!!

Find out what District she's in. I work at the one in Washington DC, but I know some of the corporate people, and if she's in the same district as we are (which I doubt, but it's worth a try) I'll see what I can do.

Even if she isn't in the same district I can see what our district manager can do (those corporate guys have so much power).

Homewrecker- that's one crazy story.. sorry to hear it had to happen to you. That's almost as bad as going to the store and finding out they had none.. but they actually HAD some but wouldn't let you buy them. I'd think if you filed a formal complaint after all the hassle they might give you a nicer Palm for a cheap price. Keep it up though.. fight for us consumers!

Man that's the worst - I went to the OD in Framingham, MA a couple weeks ago, during the first week of the liquidation sale (they had not yet announced that is was a liquidation or that they were going out of business, stuff was only marked down 10%) - long story short, I got into an arguement with the manager because they wouldn't honor the current $15 off $50 coupon...figures don't it...

anyway - if anyone knows of where there might be PALM VIIs still available, please post - or if you find yourself in a position to pick up an extra one you'd be willing to part with, just PM me.

I know which manager you're talking about (re: Pascagoula store) - caucasian, brown hair, 5'-5" to 5'-8", ~140-150 lbs. When I was in there last weekend checking on their clearance items (specifically Oregon Scientific weather items), she told me they did not have any remaining store-stock because she bought all of them. When I asked her to check the Mobile and Daphne stores for stock, she stated that she had went there and bought-out all of their stock as well. I also asked about the Palm VII which she said they did not have in stock !!! - and yes I did ask about the display. I'd venture to say she's holding the items back until they reach the final clearance price level (occurs at 30 days) and then purchasing the items for resale at their lowest price. I did see that someone from the Mobile area is selling Office Depot clearance items on e-Bay when I was searching Friday evening.

I also know that the employees at local Office Depot in my area are allowed to hold-back any store item for personal purchase during their "Family and Friends" sale on Sundays.

HomeWrecker - this is not a legitimate reason to say Alabama and Mississippi "are backwards" (although I'd have to agree based on other criteria). It's possible that several managers in that area (Gulf coast) are working together to scam these items for resale on e-Bay. That's not "backwards", it's called corporate fraud. While there's no fraud in buying the items herself, intentionally holding them back until they go on final clearance and deliberately withholding them from "customers" to make a personal profit IS corporate fraud.

Laxer...I had the same thing happene to me. They had three all I wanted wa two. No way would they sell it to me and to boot all the dam clerks were standing around while the manager and I were discussing this licking theit chops. So I bet they bought them up right after I left....I was so gd pissed!

write the home office...it does wonders sometimes....when you send a letter to the number crunchers about losing potential profit b/c of questionable employees...you're golden....I've gotten a GC for doing that before.
