Anyone here who lives near Palos Verdes / Rolling Hills should definitely take some time to get over to the Avenue and check out the Walking Company's going-out-of-business sale.

The place is pretty well cleared out, but if you have extraordinarily large or small feet there's tons of shoes left.

Here's what I picked up yesterday:

- Hyde (Saucony) shoes, Reg. $125, on sale $19.98
- Walking Co. Sandals (2 pair) Reg. $99.95, on sale $27.98
- Mozo slip-on shoes, Reg $89.95, on sale $15

Going back later today to see if they still have that other pair of Hyde kicks that I was looking at (it's only a block away...heck, I'll go NOW. Haha)

In any case, this store sells THE MOST COMFORTABLE SHOES EVER. Seriously, it's like an extended orgasm for my feet. Plus, they look great and are built to last. I think I prefer them above my $100 Havana Joes and $120 Doc Martens.

Also, and at 80%+ off, the shoes are reaching Payless-caliber prices which makes them a great deal.

Total price for ~$390 shoes for me: $95

Now, RUN RUN RUN to the Walking Company.

Is this chain wide? There is one in Sherman Oaks, CA that I will probably check out tomorrow - hopefully there will be something left.

I think it's this particular store. This mall is poorly designed and business evacuate on a constant basis. The chain itself is doing fairly well I had imagined.

Just curious... I grew up in RPV and now live in NY. What mall is this store at. Penn Center or Courtyard/Shops of PV.

Good to see a RPV post on here.

I'm curious too... I also grew up in RPV, living in OC now, so I can actually make it up there (and I just might!). I just passed the info on to some family members who still live up in that area.

Haha I remember when it was the Courtyard.

Well, the Shops of PV lasted a couple years, they just recently rebuilt the ENTIRE thing and it's now called "The Avenue"

Notable Changes:

Movie theater - Regal 13. Decent screens, actually. It's THE hangout for all the kids on the weekends.
Saks Fifth. Never expected to see such a high-profile anchor in this area, but it's not doing too bad.
Restoration Hardware, Williams-Sonoma, J.Crew, Bebe, and Pottery Barn all made it over here too. It's actually a pretty nice place, albeit deserted on the weekdays.

Found some pics

I remember the Courtyard too! In fact, I've always called it that, through all the iterations. Anyone remember Frogg Lane? They had the best buffalo wings and curly fries...my best friend and I used to hang out there all the time. Ah, memories...

I live in RPV now, and yes, the business there is still very poor. I liked the old PV mall better, it had more "interesting" stuff.

Agreed...the Courtyard was a total hangout back in my days there (early 90s). It went downhill quickly, though the Peninsula Center across the street seemed to be on the way up. I think all of the people who used to hang out at the Courtyard moved to the Starbucks at the Center.

Do they still do the street fair every year? That was always great - I'd make the drive up there for that.

They still do the Street Fair, as far as I know - at least as of two years ago. Sadly, I didn't find it as good as I remembered; I suppose I'm just more jaded and worldly now. I did run into the family of a high school friend, which was nice.

Back on topic, though - The Walking Company must have been going out of business for a while, because I actually picked up some nice Eccos there when I visited my family in September. It sounds like they've chopped the prices even more since then, which would make for some very good deals.

And I agree that the Courtyard was quite a bit better than the current incarnation is - it's not very well-designed at all, and a real hassle to navigate.

Since we are on the topic of feet, can anyone recommend me a comfortable pair of insoles, or refer me to a review site?

Bump

Frogg Lane and Sundays where some of the places to eat. If I remember correctly they had a Marie Callanders there also. I remember the theater as Kirkorian.

Penn Center I remember it having Jolly Rogers and B Dalton across from each other. Other side of the parking lot you had Hungry Tiger and then Rubens and then I can't remember what it was. All I know it was the perfect parking lot for the defunked RHHS. Damn it's good to hear from some former and current RPV residents.

And yeah The Courtyard was a hang ou place. I remember the skating rink that exited to Silver Spur being the place to hang. Can't remember any of the eating places in the mall. All sucked except for the pizza place. They had over priced ice cream at Haagen Daez. All I remember was the cool Recycle Records and snagging the free black stickers.

Hope we can keep this thread going

There was also Vie de France (downstairs)...when I was a kid we used to go there right after closing and collect a meal's worth of food from their bakery that they were going to throw away. They were always happy to give it to us. There is now a Ruby's right next to the skating rink, though it's pretty new. And there was a mini-food court, but I can't remember anything that they had except a cookie place. Also, you could look down onto the skating rink from a bridge on the second floor - that was pretty cool. I also remember the Krikorian, tiny little theater that it was.

All that said, though, as soon as we could drive we moved our hangout to Del Amo down in Torrance. Now there's a mall for ya! That place was huge...

Yeah the rink was there from day one. I think the cookie place was Blue Chip Mountain and yeah I remember Vie de France. There was a pretty good pizza place in the food court. Good prices for lunch.

I think so, the time they waste on searching for the discount, it will probably lost several thousand dollars or more per min. I went there last time with a friend who build one of the house, it has inside swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, tennis court, nice pacific view, anything you can think of.
