I seriously doubt that Panasonic has stopped making L1A fans... that would'nt make much sense unless they're dropping their Panaflo fan line altogether.

I did a google search on PBM-08A12M and came up with nothing. That yellow label isn't traditional Panaflo either. :frown:

I have one of those PBM-08A12M, it came out of a power supply IIRC. I don't remember where I put it at the moment, but do recall it... good fan, like an L1A essentially but the old soldered-on lead style instead of the swappable pigtail they use on many other models, and it is the sleeve (uhh, "hydrowave") bearing like the more common L1A.

The one I have also has the yellow label (well, it DID have a yellow lablel but I think I lost the lablel after removing to see what kind of bearing it had, as I also couldn't find any details on the model with a search engine). It seems to be a fine fan, just higher RPM (and accordingly a bit louder) than the L1A, which it ought to be, since it's an "M" instead of "L" spec. Those "M"s are pretty hard to find, usually you only see the "L" or "H".

I haven't looked very hard for one but know you can get a $9 GC88 heatsink with one on it at
openlinx.com or for $15 delivered @ newegg

Nexfan.com has a 70x25mm $5 dual ball bearing fan, and those YsTech TMD fans in 70mm (immature technology).

Found this document on Panasonic's website that talks about what the Panaflo product codes mean:

FBA = hydro wave bearing
FBK = ball bearing (40mm only)

Didn't say anything about PBM. My guess is maybe it's Panasonic's line of fans for power supply use?

Other than the first 3 letters, the rest of the code 08A12M is standard for a M1A Panaflo fan. If you search "08A12M" on google, you'll come up with a lot of links for FBA or FBK or FBM 08A12M.

Still looks like a good deal. Out of curiosity, I ordered several from Goldmine. I'll see how well they work. I bet they should be not much different than a regular M1A which sells for $13.99 at Directron.

I'm guessing that this is probably an older outdated line of fans from Panasonic. If you do a newsgroups search on google, you see posts from as far back as 1994 where people are trying to find a replacement for this fan, which apparently was used in certain Amigas.

From the pictures at Goldmine, you can see that the fan blades are different. The current Panaflos have an angular design, where these older ones have simpler looking blades. Also, I would guess that these older ones aren't hydro-wave. I don't think it will make a big difference in the noise, as they are both sleeve bearing. However, the hydro-wave thing mainly is an improved lubrication design, so they should last longer.

how do guys usually add fans to a stock case? I was thinking the way I should do it is get two panaflos...one for intake in the front and one for exhaust in the back. I have an enlight case

You can try running the 24V fan at 12V. You'll get less than 39cfm but you'll get less noise as well.
