Like Ziptar, I've been getting mine from AllElectronics: for $4.50 each + shipping. The last FBA08A12L's I received (6-8 months ago?) had 2-pin motherboard header connectors on them (red & blue wire). I clipped one of the guides off, and plugged into mobo. I don't think any L1A's have RPM sensor, do they? Their shipping is $6.00 for 6 fans. I'll see if there is any connector when I get the order.

UPDATE: Received my order today(quickly! - ordered 3/26, arrived 3/31). They came with 2-pin connectors. Cut off guide/locator next to red wire. Slides onto mobo connector fine.

I doubt that it can be done. Specs on website say that voltage range is 7-13.8V so I find it very unlikely to get it done.

I don't remember how these particular fans react to the reduced voltage, but in general they spec the voltage range based on the whole line of fans... the models starting out with the lowest RPM won't work at 5V, but the higher RPM models will run at 5V. In other words, with most fans (ignoring the really fancy 120mm & larger that have multiple zener diodes inside) if they still have a fairly high RPM at 7V, they'd be able to run at 5V, so the odds are that [whichever] you choose you'd be able to get the RPM down to a reasonable noise level, though for complete silence you do need be more precise in fan selection.

The "L" series Panaflos in my setup had the RPM sensor although a couple didn't come originally with a wire to the connector.

Where did you order them from? Mine only had two wires, no rpm sensor.
Nice fan though. Quiet with decent airflow.

Don't remember where I bought the ones that came with additional wire. I may have picked them up in the FS/T forum. Sorry.

These panaflos are great but are you guys forgetting about the vantec stealths?

Panaflo H1a
39cfms
32dbs

Vantec Stealth
28cfms
20 dbs

32dbs if fairly loud, like a monotone hum while 20 dbs is like a light whisper. The chose was obvious for me when building my gaming rig with Klipsch promedia speakers; I would not go back to bleeding ears and a loud system (32 might not sound like alot but it adds up with other fans).

I've modded a few of these with 20-40 ohm resistors (1/2 watt) in the red wire to quiet them down. Use a 1000 ohm pot to adjust the speed to where you want it then measure it's resistance to match a resitor to it. Don't forget your heatshrink.

Powering them from the Yellow(+) to the Red(-) connections of the 4 wire molex makes 7 volts too.

just FYI: these are wonderful at 7 volts.... I have three in my main computer. The people at Silent PC Review tend to prefer the "H" models... several people run them at 7V (and a few have run them at 5V).

Thanks for the good find zephyrprime.

I am really dissapointed in my H1As from MPJA. At 12V they are just loud overall. At 5V and 7V a lot of the motor and air noise is gone, but a really unbalanced sound and ticking is very present. I might try to oil them and see if it helps. At 5V and even 7V they seem to flow less air and be louder than my 80mm NMBs. I am trying some 80mm and 92mm L1As at 5v or 7v now.

Do they sell these or the Stealth's with LEDs? I'm going to be buying a case with a window and so I need some nice looking fans...

I have the H1As as my exhaust fans (back and blowhole) connected to a Sunbeam rheobus, and they tick at lower voltages. It is quite apparent when they are the loudest things in your case.

Besides the 12V H1A, MPJA also sells the 24V H1A for $3.95:

Has anyone tried running this at 12V? I wonder if the airflow and noise level would be better than running the 12V version at 7V or 5V.

Instead of trying to run these at 5-7V, it might be just as well to just get some of these, when SVC gets more of 'em.

Good deal but 18cfm might not be enough airflow in some cases.

Otherwise, get the Panaflo L1A (24cfm) from AllElectronics for $4.50, or from Quickar for $5. Personally I haven't tried AllElectronics yet, but I've had good experience with Quickar. I ordered twice from them (batch of 10 L1A's for each order), was charged $5.50 for UPS shipping from Oregon to Bay Area, CA which is true shipping charge, and the items came pretty quickly. The L1A's from Quickar are made in Japan and come with a 2pin connector.

These are easiest to deal with if you're looking for the best mix of noise and airflow..... Variable speed Fan I just hotglue the speed control to the side of the fan and adjust it while the PC is running.

I crank it up until I can hear it above the rest of the PC then turn it down to where it's not adding to the noise.

i actually emailed svc about this when i noticed they were removed from the website. i was informed that the fans have been discontinued and svc will no longer be carrying them.

pretty disappointed since i was planning on ordering a new batch of fans soon.

Allelectronics is a great seller for these fans, purchased from them with no problems at all!

Goldmine Electronics has a large selection, well priced, including a few varieties of the NMB as well as other popular brands. One thing to watch out for from them (as well as most electronics-surplus 'sites) is what connector is installed.

I seriously doubt that Panasonic has stopped making L1A fans... that would'nt make much sense unless they're dropping their Panaflo fan line altogether.
