Thanks for the pointer, RobsTV. I've been thinking of ordering a bunch of the these fans and replacing all the noisy fans in my computers. Any of you do that? I've noticed my old golden orbs aren't exactly quiet. At one point in time ripping along with the highest Mhz was fun but these days piece and quiet are more important to me. Any suggestions are appreciated .

These panaflos are super quiet. I recommend them if fan noise is a problem.

I'm not sure about the quality, but if it lives up to those specs, I'm pretty impressed with the 3rd one.

This can be a good idea for the new fans from the Antec clone from another thread.

i bought four of the L1A's from bgmicro a couple of months ago. brand new, only costed $10 and $6 shipping (with several other items too). i just noticed they are sold out. damn, that was the deal of the century. i can however, beat SVC's price.

http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=220100&item=CF-109&type=store $4.50. shipping is not bad either. i have bought two 120mm L1A's from allelectronics, and they were shipped promptly, brand new as well (as far as i can tell).

check out their DC fan page, some good finds if you want to look (i'm eyeing the mechatronics 120mm, as mecha has been getting good recommendations lately). http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=220100&type=store

The second fan listed in NewCompGeek's note above is the SVC 80x25mm 35.2CFM 4-pin that includes RPM sensing., I want RPM sensing to take advantage of the Soyo Dragon+ mobo's sensor that will shut down the system if the fan stops. But the Dragon+ connector is 3-pin. What is the 4th pin on the SVC fan for? Can the 4-pin be adapted to the 3-pin CPU fan connector on the Dragon+ ?

Now I am really considering buying four of the L1As to replace all of my case fans. Must resist, have no money.

While on the subject of fans, here is a new concept where the windings are moved to the outside from the inside, thus giving providing more air flow over the core area (theoretically, at least). Anyone gotten their hands on this one yet?

NewCompGeek, thanks for the info regarding my 4 pin question. That confirms what I suspected: when they say 4-pin they mean the 4 pin molex plug for the power supply. I already have one of the 4 pin to 3 pin adaptors so I will order the fan. Thanks again.

Yea.. BG Micro has cheap cold cathdodes too.. $7.99 for the cathode and $7.99 for the inverter.. $16 is pretty good, and they are damn bright.

No prob when you get them let me know how they are OK?

I dunno if i should get the Panaflow L1A (24cfm 20dba) or the fans from
SVC (35cfm 29dba)

Dunno if its worth the 11cfm for 9 dba, Is it??

If you really want a nice quiet fan I would suggest the Vantec Stealth 80mm fan @27cfm @21dBa.

I would say that SVC fan @35cfm @29dBA isn't bad since the panaflo M1A @32cfm @28dBa.

I would still prefer the nice and quiet Vantec Stealth fans. I am even thinking about replacing my Thermaltake 60mm fan with a Akasa 60mm to 80mm adapter with the Vantec Stealth Fan on it. That would be so quiet.

Vantec Stealth $7.99
Akasa 60mm to 80mm Clear Adapter $5.99
Akasa 60mm to 80mm Aluminum Adapter $6.99

$4.50 is an awesome price. I can't seem to find them anywhere on resellerratings or anandtech so I don't know how reputable they are. At that price it almost seems to good to be true, but then again if they did shaft you it's not like you'd lose your shirt over the deal.

Very tempting.

NewCompGeek, I have the LA1's. I'm using 3 as case fans and 1 on the CPU heatsink. They are very quiet, you can barely hear them one when it is running by itself and you hold it up close to your ear. With four of them running in my case, the power supply fan is much louder than all four LA1's combined. The LA1's I have don't include an RPM signal line, thus my search for a replacement fan for the CPU heatsink fan.

The LA1's do the job. Case temperature: 27 degrees C. CPU temperature: 38 degrees C on an Athlon 1800+ and SVC GC-68 heatsink.

mistermac, i'm curious as to what type of temps you got with your stock gc68 cpu fan. the reason why i ask is because i have an xp1700 on a biostar m7mia mobo, and i'm getting cpu temps of 50-55 degrees celsius when using the gc68 heatsink and stock fan. when i had a coolermaster dp5(?) fan installed (came with the tcwo bundle), i got similar temp reads. i'm wondering why mine is reading so hot. i don't think it's just the fan because i've gotten similar readings using two different heatsinks and cpu fans. (also used artic alumina for both). perhaps its the way the biostar mobo reads the cpu temps?

aircasper, I never used the stock fan so I can't comment on temp readings using it. I have seen some posts in the Cases and Cooling forum by other people with temps in that range. The people who responsed to those posts seem to feel that 50-55 celsius isn't high enough to cause a problem.

It is also possible that my temp readouts are inaccurate. But the temp listed in the BIOS and the temp listed by the ITE SmartGuardian program that came with my Dragon+ motherboard are within a degree of each other, so I suspect the temps are pretty accurate. (On the other hand, it is possible that both the BIOS and ITE SmartGuardian are reading the same mobo sensor and that the sensor is inaccurate.)

That's not much help I guess. If you haven't already, you might try asking in the Anandtech Cases and Cooling forum

If you mean the LA1's - I bought 5 LA1's from B.G. Micro (bgmicro.com) for $15.95 plus $6.00 shipping (part number FAN1003). They came with 3-pin connectors (but no RPM sensing) so I had to buy 3-pin to 4-pin adaptors for the 3 that I use as case fans.

If you mean the fan with RPM signal I just bought from SVC using NewCompGeek's orginal post in this thread (2nd link in his post), it was $2.95 plus $1.03 shipping.
