Sony uses trinitron (apperture grill) technology in their picture tubes. Panasonic uses invar shaddow mask. Apperture Grilles always look brighter (color wise). ..at least in computer monitors...I would think same would hold in TVs too.

Got mine today, set it up and it has the cool, warm, hot setting you mentioned. Looks fine...

I don't have a digital camera, but the SL33 looks identical to the SL13 picture from J&R earlier in the thread. Hope that helps.

Ugh, I placed my order on the night of 7/17 and my shipping date changed from July 31 - August 7 to this now:

Shipping estimate: Aug 22, 2003 - Aug 29, 2003
Delivery estimate: Aug 27, 2003 - Sept 9, 2003

Does anybody have experience with Amazon delaying ship dates? Does it usually ship in the end, or get cancelled? Or just a crapshot based on what you ordered?

In reference between Wega and the Tau's - the Wegas are ten times better. In particular, compare the tones of skin color. You'll see much more realistic colors on the Wega. The Wega has a cool/hot setting also that's not on the Tau, and I believe is unique to FD Trinitrons (?).

Of course the price difference here is huge, and for those not worried about the quality, its a great deal. Since I forsee HD's taking over within a few years, I know I'm not super worried about it - but since I can never seem to get on the better deals like this one (I always wait too long for super expensive stuff!) I'll probably end up with a Wega since its only like $50 more anyway...

i don't know about ten times better bro. it seems like you are quite knowledgeable about displays and PQ. i have one of these panasonics, and my gf just bought a wega. after AVIA calibration on both, both are very good. quite similar IMO, after proper calibrations.

Looks like the anandtech effect really messed us all up. If we had just been satisfied with the -13 and not wanted the -33, we could all have our tvs by now... the -13 is still in stock.

Called the rep up to ask for a replacement (to get the 13 instead of the 33), but they say its impossible, and still keep the 50 dollar gc. 15 dollar gift certificate to go away... in battle net speak they told me to "stfukthxbye"

Eagle Shipping called today and my TV is scheduled to be delivered Thursday
For those who are interested, I'm in Crawfordsville, IN, I ordered July 17, and my scheduled delivery estimate was August 13-20 (it was moved back once) Yesterday the tracking information was changed to "appointment delivery" at 12 AM. Hope that helps anyone who is still waiting.
