Panasonic 30" PureFlat HDTV Monitor CT-30WX15 $649 @ Circuit City... after shopping around I found this was definately the best bang for the buck. Its nicer than Philips, Samsung, Toshiba ...pretty much better than all but the Sonys and even then not by a lot.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasoni...atOid/-12868/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

The 26" model is $499.

The closest thing to these are the Toshibas at Best Buy but they are still more expensive and not as nice in the PQ dept IMO.

I know there is a 30" Philips thread here too but it does not have the same quality picture...these Panasonics are top notch.

Anyways nothing special but I did the leg work just now as I was shopping so I might be able to save someone some time...if you want a good set for cheap you cannot beat this 30" Panasonic.

Free Delivery too BTW.

YMMV but I got a 10% off coupon Email from CC and was able to call in and get an additional 10% off making it $585 +tx

Undoubtedly a good buy. I ended up with a 32" lcd from a local returns handler for Walmart but every time I look at a dark movie I think about a good crt. 140lbs!. I'd have to rent a pick up with a lift gate and hand truck to get it home. Still ,pq,pq,pq...aahhh. Maybe 1 day if they can get these to do full resolution 720p and 1080i, I'l rent that truck.
1080i on my 26" Samsung was gorgeous even if there were only around 800 lines of resolution.

I'm really interested in this... I have a built-in entertainment cabinet and this will just fit inside it.

I'm just starting to look at my alternatives, and would appreciate it if someone could tell me the pros and cons of going with this CRT over an LCD or vice-versa.

Also, isn't 720p important?

720p isn't that important. This tv should scale 720p to 1080i. Judging from the reviews, it does a good job of scaling. You'll save money with this tv and have an overall better picture. Dark scenes will display fine. On my lcd, dark scenes and shadow detail are difficult to see. I can adjust this a bit on the tv and also from the source, an htpc. My lcd is 1366x768, so I get 720p but not 1080i and it's scaled to the 768 lines. I can use the htpc to output at 1280x720. The monitor accepts it, without scaling, leaving the unused pixels as black There may be some 30" lcd's around at close to this price.
If this had been available at the time, the choice would have been difficult. The lcd is better for pc use.For watching tv's and dvd's the crt has the edge due to it's ability to display much improved shadow detail.

Ive had a 30" Panasonic HDTV for a year now and it looks SUPERB! I was thinking about getting that 44" LCD RPTV, but then got to thinking, sure the 44" is bigger, but this TV looks so great, its not worth the upgrade right now....

That 44" LCD is not even in the same league as this CRT in the PQ dept.

the only thing that bugs me about these crt's is that they have no dvi input. i hate connecting my pc to a tv through s-video.

I, too, had contemplated this set, but whenever looking at the 32" & 34" versions in these widescreen CRT's, I don't know that 30" would be enough for me........(they look kinda' small in comparison).

What about the 34" version of this set??? (CT-34WX15)

I like the vertical height of my current 27" 4:3 CRT now and I'd want to go *at least* that big & probably a lil' bigger since I've got to buy a new entertainment center anyway.........(figure I might as well upgrade if I'm gonna spend the $$$)

??? TIA

The 34" version is sweet but still $1199? Might as well swing for a Sony 34" KD-34XS955 which is on sale for $1400 @ CC I believe.

Most guys say this set is as good as the $1900 XBR sets and I agree...its phenomenal.

But as far as the Pannys go the 30" is definately the best bang for the buck

26" $499
30" $649
34" $1199

If I wanted a 34" widescreen today id bet the 34XS955 for sure....the 36" 4:3 unit
from the same series is awesome too...its 16:9 picture is still equvalant to about
a 29" 16:9 set.

To the top.. 30" is back at 800 at Circuit city, but the 26" is 399.99 through the 17th. I picked one up using a 10% off coupon found on ebay. Great TV, but my back is killing me from carrying that and a new stand up 3 stories.. OW

I think you mean 36" KD-36XS955. Which is equal to 33" widescreen
