Whoa, it's a camera that just happens to be a phone heh, kinda like the Lumia 1020. I'm curious as to real world performance of pics/videos...

According to The Verge, approximately 900 Euros. Could be the same sensor as the RX100 series, but I dunno if I'd pay that much just to converge a camera and phone.

I would probably be interested in this. I've often said that if I could get the Lumia 1020 running Android that it would be really tempting to switch. I've also thought about switching for the Galaxy Zoom, but the first version was crap. The second version is better but AT&T doesn't offer it. It Is also a bit bulky.

This one looks really nice.

Who's this for? Might as well just get a $100 point-&-shoot at that point.

This is for the people that keep saying "the best camera is the one I have with me" which invariably is their smartphone. Why not kill two birds with one stone and actually have a decent camera with you all the time that also happens to be a phone?

The same $100 P&S argument can be made for everyone using their smart phones as a primary camera but no one is doing it now.

(I don't see this selling well at all though)

Without zoom, OIS, backlit sensor or a fast aperture it will still be a second rate camera and for the price you can get yourself a proper jeans-pocketable 1" sensor cam beside your phone, which contrary to this thing won't be terribly ergonomically and aesthetically challenged. Can't say I'm not intrigued by the engineering feat but my interest is purely academic.

nope.

Well, I highly doubt it'll come to the US so it's probably a moot point to even consider on my end. I'd be concerned about Panasonic though... have they ever made a smartphone before?

Yeah, is it 900 Euros worth? That's as much as some very nice DSLRs and compacts.

Nope. In fact I wouldn't pay even half that much but then again I tend to carry a nice and small P&S with me quite often.

If nothing else it is an interesting real world example that people can look at to see why typical smartphone cameras are so limited.

Most point and shoots don't have a sensor this large, most of the ones I've seen with a 1" sensor are up around 600-800$ so the price on this isn't too outlandish.

I will care about this when I actually see it in a high end, svelte, fast and long lasting phone that takes quick pictures and with great detail.

less than $400 for the old Sony dsc RX-100.

I'm gonna guess, out on a limb, that they made the lens on the Lumix impractically wide to keep it slim. If so, the extra detail won't help you that much to photograph anything at a normal distance and pictures of things close by could look very distorted.

edit: apparently it's 28mm equivalent. Nothing too crazy but it's no fun to be constrained to it. F-stop is f/2.8, which is meh.
