Ok, Anyone looking for a really good deal on a HT Receiver should check this unit out.

Fry's Portland Oregon has it on sale. I picked it up for 159.00. I thought it was excellent for 100WPC. Sound is good. Good Deal for price paid.

If you check this thread you will find the next higher model of this receiver for a little less (though shipping will make it a little more).

JokerSmoker's original post had the unit for $139.99 though I see that JandR has raised the price to $149.88. I purchased it at the lower price. Shipping was just over $25 for this unit which gave me a final price of about $165. I am quite happy with the unit considering how little I paid.

I leave it to the reader to determine if this model is better than the one mentioned in the first message of this thread. A quick check of the specs on the SA-HE7 reveals that it does NOT have DTS. So either ericlp put the wrong model number in the thread topic, he is mistaken about it having DTS, or the Panasonic website is inaccurate.

Actually it's this one...

LINK

It definetly has DTS. I'd never buy a receiver with out since there is so much software out there using it. If you want any cool 5 channel music your not going to hear from Dolby Digital. Yeah DD is good but, I really think the effects on DTS are just that much better. Maybe a prefrence thing...

Anyway, this is a good deal...

Cicruit City is $190 this week but no free speakers.
Their web page is not bad with zoom and 3d views available.

These guys have it for $165 plus $10 shipping.

Since Fry's doesn't ship this may be the better deal for many of us.

This receiver is an semi-upgrade over the SA- HE9 sold by JandR for $175 ish net.
The HE70 looks to be the better deal.

It adds :
"Illuminated" Universal Remote Control
4 S-video Terminals 3 in , 1 out
and Dolby Digitial Pro-Lgic II

Anyone see a better deal ?

This reciever sux. Look the the THD .09%. That is high when compared to other recievers. If your in the ballpark for a reciever, go buy the Kenwood vr-507 or Vr-509. These recievers are exellant for the price, quality and features

How well will this sound when hooked up to a PC? I was thinking about doing an optical out from my sound blaster audigy to a receiver? How about some good speakers to go with this receiver? I was looking for a domed center channel to provide 180 degrees of sound.

I wouldn't be too quick to say it sux on that statement alone... Before you do at least go down and listen to it. Then you can say it sucks. I have one and comming from an Onkyo 575 I have to say I was really impressed by the sound comming out of this amp.

So... If you want a CHEAP reciever... this is the one to get... What the website doesn't show is that the second line down in the specifications it says....

RMS power output...
1 khz continuious power output both channels driven 105 watts per channel 0.05 % THD...

It also states that the THD is .7 % driven @ half power...

THD is rated at 100 % full blast. Who listens to an amp maxed out? If you do you need a hearing aid or a bigger amp. I wonder how many CHEAPLY made companys really tell you the truth... If you think they are all on the same sheet of music. Look at the Power Supply ratings. 80% of all the cheaply made power supplys 30.00 and under are stretching the truth. I've seen some really bad PS's in my time. Over half never even come close to what they are rated at... I don't think it is really going to make that much of a diffrence.

Now if I were spending 1000 dollars I'd be buying a 5 channel amp from www.outlawaudio.com ... And if you want to spend 500.00 take a look at the receiver they have.

The only reason I bought this receiver is because it was cheap... And it was on sale. & when I got it home I was amazed at the sound so... Hence... POST... I don't work for panasonic. Altho, I almost bought a LCD AE-100 projector from them... But, that will have to wait untill I get into my new house with a dedicated HT Room.

I own the kenwood v-507, its a very nice reciever for the price. espically if you buy the complete system i think its the htb-504. mine was around $280 with 5 speakers the v-507 and a sub. I think they have a new package with a better reciever which supports rf for around the same price.

After the post by zincpig, is there any doubt that the model at Costco for $139 is the HE-7, and that the HE-7 does not decode DTS?
