Panasonic Viera U50 Series 60" ?

Saw this a little while back at Walmart for $948.00..thought it was a good deal and the kicker is if I do not like it then its easy enough to return...The reviews I've read seem positive...the TV would be in a room with moderate light control so I don't think glare would be an issue...3d is a non issue for me...

just wondering sub $1000 price is the norm for 60" plasmas?

I can tell you from looking at other prices on Panasonic plasmas that none of the top recommended sets that large were under $1000 in my searches. If you like the picture and it's in your price range I'd say just go for it.

Its funny, it just seems 'to good to be true' a 60" HD TV for less than $1000???..so tempted...the only real issue is that the room that the TV will go in is being renovated so it might not be until the spring that I actually set the TV up...

It's the absolutely entry level of Panasonic's current line-up, but that appears to be normal price for it. $999 on Amazon (and they will pricematch on TVs I believe):

Look at the chart at the bottom to see how it compares.

It's limited on inputs, doesn't do wifi (built-in or optional), doesn't do 96hz, doesn't do apps/streaming... But for $1000 it's probably a great monitor.

If you plan to use it with a single HDMI input from a receiver with other source devices you probably can't go wrong.

I have a 65VT50, it is absolutely spectacular. I can't imagine that this is only 1/3 as good.

Not everyone needs a cutting edge top of the line TV. If it's your main and only television in a home theater system then perhaps you may want to spend a bit more money. But unless you are doing critical viewing I would think this would be fine for most people.

Just keep one thing in mind. Walmart forces their vendors to cut costs to THEIR price point.

SO, don't assume that Model # is exact same as other Panasonic model numbers in other stores.

This TV would be paired with a Onkyo NR709 and some nice Polk speakers...I've got good light control in the room it will be set up in so not too worried about glare..

Don't care about the smart features, got a roku and wd live for that...

Got to research that 96hz feature though....

Just make sure you supply clean and ample power to plasmas. They don't like power issues one bit.

I know the Onkyo TX-NR709 supports ARC through a HDMI connection. If the Panny has a ARC HDMI port, that will be a plus in that you will not need a digital audio cable.
