i love pandora, but for some reason it insists on playing shit like nickelback too often. they should have a feature where you can disallow certain bands.

I like it. I've always wanted an easy way to find new bands that "sound like X". Pandora is a more perfect answer to that problem than I would have imagined possible a few years ago.

Well, the beatles - yesterday just popped up on my TOOL station.

Not sure how that's prog metal, but I'll take it.

I got nickelback/creed on my chickenfoot station. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

i've figured it out... nickelback is the most generic noise you could ever come across, so it matches to everything.

I only listen to unsigned bands that have not recorded any of their music.

Once they've recorded something, they're sold out and gone mainstream, just like Lady GaGa.

It's kind of expensive paying bands to show up at the office to play background music while I work, but it's the only way to keep my listening pure.

I thought I was the only one.

Last FM>pandora

this

pandora constantly plays songs and artists i already know. last.fm has introduced me to way more new artists, especially less-mainstream ones. oh, and scrobbling is pretty much awesome.

They're trying too much to be an iProduct... the site is very bloated - not a big deal on my main PC, but I have an old athlon xp in my workout room and surfing in other tabs in between sets is sluggish with pandora going... the interface is really cheesy, I get long, apologetic messages about how sorry they are to have offended me by daring to play a song I thumbs-downed. I mean jesus, just play the damn music, if I wanted a rimjob I'd ask for it.

As for the music itself, meh. Too many replays, recommended similar artists never really seem to capture what I liked about the artist I put in. But for occasional listening, it's ok.

My girlfriend loves it. I am indifferent. 40 free hours a month goes by in about a week or two at most.

mp3 player in car>pandora in car

There are no devices that play Pandora that don't also play MP3's.

And sometimes I don't want to choose the music, I just want a random mix of stuff I will like with new stuff I've never heard or haven't downloaded thrown in.

phone -> adapter -> head unit

That's how I do it. I also listen to podcasts and MP3's that way. Plus it doubles as a speakerphone through the car stereo (uses the phone's mic and picks up fine). Way better solution than bluetooth FM transmitters (been there, done that).

I have stock headunits without stock aux-ins in my Hondas but I bought special boxes that let me run aux-ins to the CD changer inputs.

Meh, its OK.

I use Grooveshark.com instead when I can (which is most of the time).
You get to listen to any song you want at any time without any sort of aggravating limit.
