Does anyone here have panic attacks? A few of you might have known that I have a phobia of having a heart problem. And, as a result, I feel like I worry about it too much causing myself panic attacks -- short little bursts where I feel like I am going crazy, or feel like I am having a heart attack, which doesn't help at all.

A few nights ago I couldn't fall asleep because I was freaking out so bad. I will go see a doctor soon, but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this.

u r screwed...

my daughter was having really evil panics, being the evil prick that i am all i can say is that i could see why with what goes on in her head... but nothing short of unconsciousness helped when one hit...

she finally has gotten her act together a bit and surprise, no more attacks lately... but they were as real as real and stupid scary when they were happening...

find a nice place to crawl into and maybe watch some dr. phil or something until u get a grip... but if u r full of irrational fears then u r pretty much screwed...

Yes, usually when I take exams and tests at school. I panic and forget all the material and even basic things like integrating and derivatives. I didn't find this out until my adviser told me to see the school psychologist for anxiety problems and panic attacks.

Doesn't happen at school either, I remember failing the driving test 9 times because of being deathly nervous at the time. It's psychological and I'm taking some meds for it now.

A lot of it can do with your thoughts. Try to think positive thoughts.

Exercise more.
Release negative emotions from the past.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol as much as possible.

Just some suggestions. I am not a doctor. The doctor will probably want to put you on medication.

Only panic attack I've ever gotten was when I was stoned one time, and even then it wasn't too bad, more paranoid I guess. Now I say f that crap.

Don't listen to any of the idiots here (myself included most of the time). You should go see a doctor, a lot of people have this condition and a good doctor can help. Good luck to you.

Sounds like OCD.
I used to give myself panic attacks all the time because of my OCD.
But eventually I learned how to control my thoughts and fear. To an extent.
I would suggest asking yourself why you fear it so much, or if it is even heart problems you fear at all.

i will try to restate of you...

my daughter was experiencing debilitating panic attacks. i believe that a large causation was the choices that she made in how to live her life, virtually all which were causing her problems. no medication or counseling was helping.

she grew up a bit and figured out that the result of bad choices can be huge stresses that can really mess with your head. when she was having an attack there was nothing that would make it better, no calming her down, etc... they were like psychotic episodes...

the best thing to do, in my estimation, is to be sure that, if you are having true, debilitating panic attacks, is to be sure that you have somewhere safe to be when they occur. Since you profess that you have some potentially irrational fear that could be a causing factor, get that resolved... but if you are not willing to do anything different in your life then you probably should not expect any different results...

and i am not trying to be excessively funny or anything... real panic attacks suck...

I don't believe in panic attacks unless you've been through something extremely traumatizing. Like almost dying.

I have them. I thought I'd "outgrown" them, but a few months ago I started having heart palpitations which caused me to have panic attacks. I'm actually still going through a battery of tests to make sure I really don't have a heart problem, but in any case...

See your doctor. Living life with untreated panic disorder completely sucks. Since being on the meds, I've had almost no palpitations and hence no panic attacks.

I've had anxiety and panic problems my whole life. It's very easy to self medicate it, be careful.

There is nothing wrong with having a heart problem. You can still live a normal life, I have had a pacemaker since I was 3 (now 18). Well I hope you can get help

I think I'm going to be okay. My family has a history of depression.

However, I will be going to a doc soon.

good on the positive thinking; good on the doing something; bad on hanging with other depressed people... i know they are family, etc... sometimes you need to have a different environment to change your perspective... gotta fix you before you can help others...
