you people do realize that the crust of pizza isn't supposed to be flavorful, right? it's dough. it's supposed to just taste like bread. it isn't supposed to have stupidass garlic butter all over it, it isn't supposed to be sweet, it isn't supposed to be salty, it isn't supposed to be thick and fried, and it sure as fuck isn't supposed to be stuffed with cheese...
papa john's wins this competition. none of these pizza chain options are that good, but of all four of them, papa john's sucks the least.
- pizza hut: way too much grease and way too much salt. after you have a slice, you feel like your stomach mimic's the gulf of mexico after the bp oil spill. the ONLY redeeming qualities they have is that they have a hand-tossed pizza as well as red onions. their hand-tossed crust is not too bad, but a little on the sweeter and saltier side than i'd like for my crust to be. i've already experienced the sweetness and saltiness on the interior of the pizza... why do i need it with the crust, too?
- domino's: wow, what an absolute fail by this company. they "improved" their recipe. whatever. no, they didn't. they bastardized it. they made their pizza sauce sweeter and put in more italian seasonings and then they decided "this pizza isn't horrible enough" and decided to coat the crust with some shitty herb garlic butter. seriously?? why? there wasn't anything wrong with the crust. it's pizza crust. what do you think crust is supposed to be? pie crust is boring, but necessary... bread crust is boring, but necessary... pizza crust is SUPPOSED to be boring, but necessary. know why? because it concludes the flavor profile. you have all these flavors you just ate in the pizza, then you finish it off with a nice, crispy and soft crust that mellows out your pallet. that's what crust does for us... it's the calm conclusion to a flavor party. it isn't supposed to be another calorie-laden flavor party, too.
- little caesar's: not that good, but better than the above two. the crust is "meh" because it doesn't have that great a texture. plus, it's a little more sweeter on the tastebuds than it should be. can't beat those big crust bubbles in the middle of the pizza, though. also, the fact that they're $5/pie is awesome, especially if you're entertaining during a football game or birthday party or something. the sauce is a bit on the flavorless side, though. however, again, it's only $5... not a pizza to bring home for the family unless you were broke and in a super hurry to get dinner on the table.
- papa john's: plain crust... maybe a little on the sweeter side, but not as bad as all of the other flavor offenders. WAY too much cheese on that thing... i can't even taste the toppings. it's only slightly better than little caesar's, which isn't exactly a praise, but it's saving them from being in the ranks of pizza hut or domino's.
