PaperWhite Versus Kindle touch

Anyone want to take a stance on whether the paperwhite is worth $40 more than the touch?

My wife has one, and I'd steal if she'd let me (I have an older non-touch Kindle). The built-in screen light alone makes it worth it, in my opinion. The screen is significantly higher contrast, and the integrated light works even better than I imagined.

Looks like it's only $20 more ($99) on a 2-day sale they're running. Not sure when it ends, but if you're ready to order, I'd say now's the time.

Amazon claims that the Paperwhite lasts twice as long, too, even when you use the front light.

...lasts up to four weeks, based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off...

Personally I don't like touchscreens on a Kindle, it just seems like a clumsy way to flip pages compared to edge buttons.

Then again I don't like the lights in the Paperwhite either, I find them more tiring on the eyes than and old fashioned 'led on a stalk' type light.

So that was no help I suppose. :/

Went from a 2nd Gen kindle to a paperwhite and love it. Wife likes it too because it isn't as bright at night and she can actually fall asleep when I'm reading.
With the paperwhite you can adjust the brightness which is really nice. Well worth the additional money.

Paperwhite is definitely worth it. I own a Kindle 4 (non-touch version but otherwise similar to the Touch in terms of screen), a Voyage, and owned a Paperwhite2 and the Paperwhite is far superior to the Touch. The Voyage is better than all of them but probably not worth the premium. In my case, I gave my Paperwhite 2 to my wife and bought myself a Voyage.

I upgraded from a Kindle 4 (non-touch) to a Paperwhite 2 (touch).

At first, I was mildly disappointed with the Paperwhite.
It is noticeably thicker and heavier, and a tiny bit larger in frontal area.

If I really tried, I could tell the text on the Paperwhite is a bit sharper; however, overall I preferred the color tone of the Kindle 4.
Something I did not realize is that you cannot turn off the light on the Paperwhite.
You can set it to be very low, but never completely off.

For page turning, I missed the physical buttons.

Now, several months later, I can say I definitely prefer the Paperwhite.
It didn't take very long to get used to the touchscreen.
The light is SO useful, and I don't mind it being on all the time.
I only read books and never have the WiFi on, the battery life is still wonderful (I have no idea how long it lasts. At least one book's worth, and I've never been inconvenienced by having to charge it.)

Paperwhite.... my second Kindle (first one was stolen at Mohegan Sun Casino)... Could not be happier with the device.
