Have you used the Panaflo L1A or M1A fans?

I have four Papst 8412NGL fans right now (not installed), but I was wondering if I should go with low speed Panaflos instead. It seems you have some experience with both (and the Panaflos seem to push more CFM for the amount of noise they produce) so I was curious.

Thanks!

Papst fans are just a whole nother world. As for panaflo's, they are up there with the Sanyo Denki's imho. I would put adda above nidec's. I've never really loved Nidec's =). Finding a good papst retailer is tough in the US. They are expensive, so most companies can't keep good selection.

What experence have you had with nidec fans, intel CPU fans? As rare as they are i've been able to snatch some of the good ones, there good stuff the SL and the Beta V. When were talking near silent fans there 1 and 2 with Papst.

Panaflos don't really hit the spot, there 92 and 120 are too loud, there 60mm are Very poor performers, and there 80 is kinda so so. AS for quality of the fan itself nothing really to get excited about they got about 25k too 30k hours hardly anyone will even get that high, but Nidecs are triple that.. spec'd 100k+ hours. Snoop around in some rack servers i've never spotted a Panaflo fan in one, but like almost always i spot Nidec with its green label, some in alota Cisco stuff and in big office equipment, ya know like copy machines and crap. Nidecs aren't cheap either they go about the same price as Papst.
On the forums here praise Panaflo too much cause its what alot of the ppl here have, and there very easy to get and priced competively between many stores. Nidecs and Papst are very hard to get most liekly have to be ordered overseas, hardly anyone carries em and if they do its probably not the good stuff.

I have used the L1As.

>It seems you have some experience with both
Yes. I first used Panaflos but replaced them with quieter Papst fans - as lowest possible noise level is my goal.

>and the Panaflos seem to push more CFM for the amount of noise they produce
I haven?t done a calculation of noise to CFM ratios for either of the fans ? so I don?t know which one gives you more bang for the dB - so to speak. But Papst fans are definitely quieter. The most noticeable ting to me is that in comparison with Panaflos, they don?t seem to vibrate (due, no doubt, to the fact that they are balanced with the aid of small metal inserts)

>I was wondering if I should go with low speed Panaflos instead
I guess that would be a matter of what you are trying to accomplish and personal preference. You will definitely get less noise using the Papst fans you already have... And if higher CFM is what you are after ? take a look at Papst 8412NGML. It does 26.5 CFM at 19 dB. I can?t remember for sure but I think it?s quieter than Panaflo L1A yet pushes more air.
