Parallel Bar pushups at home?

I'm trying to emulate the pushups done on a parallel bar without actually setting one up at home. I've got a cantilevered pullup bar I'm using for my arms, but I'm really looking for some stable way to get my feet up in the air and locked into place.

I've tried a couple of chairs but that didn't work out so hot. Another idea was putting pipes between cinderblocks but the problem with that is taking it apart and setting it back up constantly. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this? Thanks.

In all seriousness, fitness clubs in Boston are just too expensive for a student. I really can't afford the $65 monthly for any of the places around here especially when the facilities are sub par. I can do all the movements I want to do except the parallel bar at home so I'm really trying to figure out how to do that last thing.

I use an easy curl bar and a stable chair for chest. The easy curl bar, as you know has a dip in the middle, so if you put weights on it put it on the floor with the dip down, then do pushups on top of it you can get a full range of motion without your chest hitting the bar or your head hitting the floor. Holding on to the bar keeps your body in line and quite stable. The weights allow it to roll slightly forward or back if you want to focus on a different portion of the chest. You can then put your legs up on a chair or just on the floor to also change the point of stimulation. This also seems to work well on your core stabilizing muscles.

Well a big part of this is that I like to do these one handed and thus my trunk twists ever so slightly and throws my feet off balance.

hmm so you want your hands and feet on a bar.

i can think of two solutions

get two sets of push up bars, one set for hands one set for feet, or one set and have feet on a chair.

OR

Go to a home depot and build a small set of bars with pipes.
(2) 5 ft of 1 in black pipe,
(4) 1in Elbows
(4) 1 in Flanges
(4) 1ft 2x4 for feet

Assemble and you're done.
